Haven't posted here for ages but I remember some of you from the pregnancy thread - DD is 22 weeks now and a beautiful chubster!

wonderwomble I found up until about 8 weeks old DD was literally only awake 2/3 hours a day at the most - personally I wouldn't bother making you and her miserable just to follow a book. We loosely used baby whisperer and she slept 10pm - 5am from 4 weeks old and then 7pm-7am pretty much every night from 8 weeks old. She also sleeps at least 3 hours during the day - I have a baby who loves sleep so you may have the same!

hello, welcome all the new babies xx

Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas xx

WW when Bob was small he was only awake to feed and woke about every 3 hours. Would have a nappy change, feed and then fall back to sleep. He probably started staying awake for longer periods after feeding when he got to about 8 weeks. At 10 weeks I started doing his bedtime routine with bath before bed so he'd had a nice awake period before his long night time sleep. Now he only has one nap a day.

So glad the MIL visit is over for another year. They insisted we went out after we'd had 4 really busy days, the kids werent well and I'd been up all night with DD feeling ill and coughing. All we were good for was lounging on the sofa and Bob could have done without it. Do you think it would be rude to ask them to buy the kids less chocolates next year? When they were younger OH used to eat some and we'd throw some away and they would have some but now they are older they count how many seletion packs they get so there is no hiding it. It just seems silly, they all give chocs as well as toys or clothes, why cant they just give the present without it. I've got used to it so I never buy any chocs or biscuits at Christmas. I think OH needs to say something - we were at his aunts house in the summer and she gave DS his bday present and as well as pressie there was a pack of haribo (the massive packs not the small ones), he passed it straight to DD because he doesnt like haribo and we laughed saying it was what he always does because she always puts haribo in and still for Christmas she gave them a big bag of haribo each as well as their pressie. I might put a facebook status about ditching it all lol

Hi Apricot, yes I remember you :D hope you and the little one are keeping well? I'm very jealous of your 12 hour sleeping baby - my DD was like that, but Dear Son is too hungry to sleep through and has had to be 'trained' not to be cuddled to sleep. At one point all his naps were just 20 mins long as he wouldn't stay asleep unless cuddled :( So I found the book helpful for getting him down for nice long daytime naps in his basket.
WW, you could try lying her down, or undressing her to try and keep her awake, but I agree with Apricot, no point in upsetting her or yourself. She is still very little and some babies just need lots of sleep.
I used the book from 10 weeks or so as I felt i needed a bit of help.

This is going to be my first New Year's where I don't stay up to midnight. The joys of parenthood eh?

Merfe maybe you could say they are sensitive to e numbers? A would be a bit cross if DD got lots of sweets. I would have to take them off her as she would eat nothing but sweets all day otherwise. Hope you get soon get some time to yourselves!!!

  • Nice to hear from WW, Lirin and Jenjade, almost date buddies from the preggers thread.

I'm having sleep issues with Ella (17 days old now) for the last couple of days. Last week she would fall asleep whilst feeding and stay asleep for 3-4 hours a few times a day, with a couple of 1-2 hour naps too. Now, she hasn't stayed asleep for more than an hour or so all day, and took hours to settle last night. I expected a bit of a growth spurt so am happy to feed a bit more often, but it's become so draining. She seems to be struggling to settle herself as well, being especially fidgety which leads to overtiredness.

I suppose it's just one of those things and a phase they go through, but I really didn't want to have to feed/cuddle/bounce etc to sleep as DS would only sleep after a feed so only had 20 min naps for a loooooong time which was horrendous. She's still only weeny though so time to teach her to go to sleep herself I guess. Blimey babies are hard work!

Thanks ladies, unfortunately LO likes to sleep all day and party all night :( We've spent 3 and a bit weeks now trying to turn her body clock around but she is just so sleepy all day and falls asleep regardless of what you do, then she is awake much of the night!
  • Poor Wonderwomble It can only get easier eh?

Yummymummy have you tried swaddling? I didn't need to for DD but it is ESSENTIAL for Daniel to sleep more than 20 mins. If you don't have swaddling wraps, use a large muslin folded into a triangle. Daniel has outgrown his swaddling so i have to use the muslin. Hopefully he will find his hands soon!

BTW mother care have a great offer on the Totsbots easy fit nappy. Usually £72 for 5 nappies, but with their half price and 3 for 2 offer you end up with 15 nappies for £72. They are birth to potty so great value :money: (sorry, think I'm addicted to cloth nappies!!)

oh ww that is no good if she is up all night. Do you keep it dark and not speak at night. Mine have all always gone straight back to sleep after a feed at night so no advice sorry. Bob did wake last night, really screaming, so think he may have had his first bad dream he was alright after a bit of a cuddle though.

Hope everyone is having a good night. OH is home from work early, kids are watching polar express and I'm working tomorrow so no partying here.

OH agrees the Chocolates were too much so he has eaten most of them to save me and the kids haha. Still got 2 packs of haribo, 3 milkybar packs, a selection pack, a smarties tube, 2 buttons tubes and 2 boxes of biscuits and shortbread to get through. Anything that hasnt gone by wed when the kids go back to school is going in the bin, I dont mind the odd treat but its too much in one go - Its enough to last till easter if eaten sensibly but in reality it'll just ruin my diet and make the kids hyper.

Well think I've fallen out with my mum. OH got a new job just before Christmas and before he took it I checked with mum if she could watch the kids one in 6 sundays because we'd both be working. Only for 3 hours because OH starts at 1:30 and I finish at 4pm and she said she would. I called her because he had his rota for the next 4 months so I wanted to let her know which ones they were and she asked which days he had off so she can get me a shift swap at work, I said I thought she was going to watch them and she said she'd rather not - thanks mum. So now I'll be working the only day he has off that week or an extra long day - I'm gonna book them as holiday as its only 2 till the end of the holiday year and I have some left but not sure about next year. I really wish I didnt work with my mum, but there is nothing I can do about it as I'm so restricted in the hours I can work because of OH job may see about a transfer to my local store though.

    Glad the carseat fits JenJade.

MERFE - i would say something, I am sure they are only trying to be nice but that much chocolate can't be great for kids and not like you can take it off them once they have it.

I am jealous of those with good sleepers. Poppy has always been awake most of the day. She used to not be too bad at night but last few weeks she has been waking every 1-2 hours arghh. Her first tooth cut through christmas day so thought it was that but still hasn't got better.

I still feed her/push her to sleep for her naps too which i really need to try and sort before she starts nursery in march. Have bought the no cry nap solution so will see if can get any tips from that.

wendz I'm not gonna say anything just get OH to say something. From my whole family we got 1 box chocs and 1 box biscuits so plenty to share. It was literally every member of his family they got a pressie and sweets or chocs and its a big family. I sound so ungrateful but I had gestational diabetes and OH family have diabetes in the family so the kids are at risk. All the chocs have gone up on top of the cupboards but now they are older they seem to be able to keep track of how much they have eaten and how much should be left. Before OH used to dispose of it all and they just got to eat a reasonable amount.

The sleeping will get better, hope the book helps xx
