  • Thanks mit3. In reality I have had to take a bit of a step backwards with this job in terms of the role itself, but to be honest I'm not bothered.

I'm not in a position now where I can be jetting off around the world on business trips and putting in full time hours.

The girl I will be working with basically does the same thing I used to do, and she just needs some help, so I'll be managing smaller accounts, picking stuff up when she is away and generally helping make her life a bit easier.

The only downside is the fact it's based in Surrey and the train there took me 2 hours last week  so I am going to try driving there instead. If it's a nightmare though, that'll be a major stumbling block.

Ugh DS is going through a really horrible clingy stage. I can't leave the room at all now without him kicking off and going bezerk. It's really wearing as he is so bloody heavy to carry about. I'm hoping he grows out of it soon.

Oooh with all the talk of everyone in Surrey we should all meet-up. I am in Egham

MV if I had not finished work (they wouldn't let me work part-time) we should have swapped jobs or houses!! I worked in South East London and live in Surrey and you're the other way around!!

And our little dudes are the same age as well. I feel your pain about the clingy stage they are going through. And we are also thinking about no. 2. We must be crazy!!
  • Just popping in to say hi as a transferee from the Pregnancy thread. Little lady Eleanor arrived last Tuesday, and have been trying to get back into the swing of having a baby around; DS is 7 so it's been a while since I went through it.

Am bfing so have got the usual mahoosive boobie issues. She's doing OK with feeding but her mouth does seem a bit on the small side so latching is alright but not brilliant, hence some nice sore nips and 5 seconds of hell whenever she latches on. Community midwive had a look and said she is doing OK so am just having to get through that little bit of pain which is worth it to keep the feeding going.

Daytimes have been OK, some nice long naps have been happening for her, but night times have been hellish so far. She doesn't seem to sleep for more than about an hour and a half, sends herself to sleep whilst feeding so it takes about 20 mins or so to feed. The last couple of nights I made sure I gave her a good burp before putting her in her basket, one night it worked well and she slept a bit longer, but last night she was having none of it and didn't properly settle after about 3am.

My plan for tonight is to carry on using the Infacol I bought today, give her at least 15 mins of laying still on me after feeding, 10 mins of burping, then back in basket and hopefully she may sleep for a bit longer as I'm not sure I can manage on an hour's sleep for much longer.

Anyway, that's my introductory essay! I'll hopefully remember to pop in reasonably regularly

  • Hey, I'm still here. BF LO hasn't worked out as she was falling asleep within seconds of latching on. My BF support worker has loaned me an electric medela breast pump so that I can express and bottle feed. I started with that today and was impressed with the amount I've been able to express so far. A little is better than none. If it works out we will invest in our own electric pump.

    Congratulations :)

You've reminded me of the painful 5 seconds of hell! Well for me it was more like 20 seconds in the early days. Reducing to 5 seconds up to about 3 months. But after that it almost went completely :) Hang on in there with the pain, it will get better. Have you got any BFing clinics you can go to if you need help?

My DD is teething again too :( But I'm not convinced that's why she's been waking in the night. She's all over the place at the moment. I think she's hungry. I'm worrying that she's not getting the milk she wants/needs before bed. She always had a feed at bedtime (6:30ish) and that would see her through to morning. But last night for example she didn't take any milk, it seemed like she was frustrated that she couldn't get any. I'm not sure. Maybe the teething meant it was sore to suck? I don't know :( Anyway she woke at midnight, so I fed her then.

Someone has said that getting your period back can reduce milk supply...anyone know if this is true? This waking in the night/hunger would coincide with that as I got my first period back a month ago.

I did google growth spurts, not sure there is one really at 10 months.

You could try giving her a snack, say some porridge or something close to bed time if you think it is hunger but it could be anything, teething, ill or something else, you probably wont know until after it's over. I didn't notice any reduction in milk when my periods came back but DD was 17 months by then so eating lots of food anyway!

DD was a sleepy baby at first, I had to try tickling her feet and just generally waggling her around when feeding to keep her awake. Luckily it didn't last too long so maybe your LO will improve as well. There are some tips here: http://www.mother-2-mother.com/cc-baby-A.htm#SleepyBabies and another article I read recommends you nurse baby at least every two hours during the day and at least every 4 hours at night to establish your milk supply in the early days with a sleepy baby if they are not demand feeding often enough.

Well, my big news is I had my 20 week scan today and I'm going to have a boy :j Actually I'm a bit in shock still as I'm one of three girls and already have one daughter so having a son is going to take a bit of getting used to. I'd saved all DD's nicest outfits in the hope of passing them on to another daughter - did that without really thinking, for some reason I always assumed I'd just have girls. At least I now have four months to get used to the idea!

Congrats on your little boy, Jenny :T Get ready for the wee fountain!! :rotfl:

Also congrats on your new arrival and welcome to the thread, yummymummy :)

And good luck to those almost ready to pop! :)

How's everyone getting on with Christmas preparations? We are visiting my folks, so I need to get packing today so we're ready to head off tomorrow morning.

Our fridge is having a bit of an identity crisis at the moment and thinks it's a freezer :( With all the bank holidays we can't get anyone out to look at it til the new year, so it's lucky that I've not got loads of Christmas food that needs storing in there. It's kind of ironic that the weather has gone quite mild too as we have a small conservatory that's unheated and usually like a fridge in the winter - but not quite cold enough at the moment for us to store things in.

  • Hiya,
Hope everyone is feeling full of the Christmas spirit. I have to admit I'm feeling a little too sleep deprived to be very excited about tomorrow.
Was wintering if anyone has used hungry baby formula?
My little chap is 3+ months and getting 6 big 7 oz bottles a day and is waking up earlier every night and taking a full bottle each time. He's on a 3 hour routine and barely lasts 3 hours between bottles. He was 8lb 5oz born 2 weeks early and now over a stone.
Don't know why I'm a bit wary of using the hungry baby milk, just wondering if anyone has some experience with it?
