Hi Missymoo. I wanted a water birth and was in the water for about 2-3 hours. Then they made me get out to check me over and found that I hadn't progressed at all and I understand it can be quite common for the water to slow things down.

I then had an epidural too as the pain was bad and even though things started to go a bit wrong for me then I would recommend it for pain relief.

    Good luck x
Leo James arrived 7 days late on 26th August 2011 by emergency CS :j Such a cheeky chappy now :T

Missymoo - I wanted a waterbirth and no epidural. Unfortunately baby had other ideas and i ended up moving from the midwifeled unit to the main hospital part to have an epidural and then had an emergency c section. My advise is to keep your mind as open as possible. The people I know who actually did have waterbirths hadn't actually planned it and just took the opportunity when it came up.

At my hospital you can't have an epidural with a water birth but you might cope better than you think. I would say the midwife led unit was nice and more relaxing.

    morning all x

missymoo cant really help from experience as mine are all c-sections early cos I grow them big but if I'd had the chance I'd like to have tried the water birth in a midwife led unit. Does depend how far that is from the hospital though, When I had my first before I knew she was massive I contemplated homebirth because we only lived 5 mins from the hospital but I'd never consider it where we are now as its a 45 min drive at least so long as there is no traffic.

I think the development check thing is odd as DD never had one, we moved when she was 4 months and she dropped off all radars despite registering at the new docs and ringing hv and even taking her to the clinic. When I had DS he was one of these babies that did everything early so he got loads of ticks, I know Bob wont but its been so long I still want to see what is on it that he should be doing. Plus its been ages since I had him weighed so should be interesting to see if he is still following his line or way off the chart.

thanks for the advice lovelies, will have a think, they must have birthing pools at the delivery suite too, which would be better if I decided I couldnt cope and needed an epidural..... hmmmm, just want it over as quickly as possible really lol, dont we all!

Missymoo, I had a water birth and would definitely do it again :) I was actually surprised at just how much it relieved the pain when I got in. I couldn't use the MLWU as I was on medication due to a risk of blood clots in pregnancy (which also meant an epidural would be risky for me, hence my wanting a water birth). So I was in the hospital delivery suite, which luckily had a couple of pools. I'm not sure how the MWLU differs, but I found the environment relaxed enough for me - I was so relaxed I was falling asleep between contractions! :rotfl: It possibly depends on how busy they are/what your MW is like/whether there are any complications. I had a straightforward birth and a really lovely MW, so everything was rosy :)

Funny you should be talking about development reviews, Joe has his tomorrow morning. The lady doing it runs the early days group that we used to go to before he was mobile, so it'll be nice to catch up with her.

Bob will be having his 1 year check soon, dont think he will tick anything on their list he is so slow, he still isnt crawling properly, seems perfectly happy to drag himself about. Makes no noise expect the piercing scream and very occasional dada. About the only thing he does do is clap. I'm not worried he'll get there eventually in his own time just hope its a nice lady doing it.

I don't think they do a 1 year check here, I haven't heard anything about it anyway.

She had her 8 month check and was fine though. I don't take much notice of it really, and because the twins were so different (their autistic tendencies were picked up at their 8 month check) and because DD1 was quite lazy Squeak just seems like a genius to me anyway :D though I'm sure she isn't, she just seems very far ahead of where the others were at her age, but then she has three sisters to chase and a crowd of elderly admirers to chat to :o:o

At the moment our buses are running on a diversion, I'm waiting for them to finish the work so I can take Squeak to feed the ducks again, and maybe take the chance of going out without the buggy  although obviously with reins and when it's just the two of us lol.

    Can't help re:waterbirths, I've been induced every time :o

Hi ladies, a wee update from me... My gorgeous little boy seems to finally be on the right meds and formular so finally seems to be enjoying life a bit :-). He's grizzly at times, especially at "colic o clock" from 5 till 7 but generally he's much better. We made it to a baby group this week and he grizzled a bit but also had a good kick about on a play mat. It was nice to mingle with some other mummies too.

I'm still having major difficulties getting him to sleep anywhere other than on me or DH. He goes down in a moses at his nannys so it must be the problem with us where we've always held while he was in so much pain. Hes coming up 8 weeks so I really want to start getting him to sleep in his moses - any tips?

We bought his Christmas present - it's a toy box. Not very exciting for him but he already has lots and family are getting lots so we thought he wouldn't mind! I've got a couple of gorgeous outfits to dress him in at Christmas - he'll hate me for that when I show him the picture in 18 years time!!

He's having his first jabs next week. What should I expect him to be like afterwards?

I hope everyone is doing well and I hope my birthing buddies are doing well. X

Can't help on the Moses basket but have you thought about a sling? My 5 week old will fall asleep on me in the day but wake up the second I put her in the basket so I just have her in a sling and then at least I have two hands free!
