Thanks both, I know eventually it will sort itself, think sleep deprivation and the thing with my mum are getting to me...
Delain, guess I am the only one that doesn't know much about your ex MIL history then! Sounds a nightmare.
Becles, it is tempting, just that he seems less clingy during the day since being in with us, plus I feel reassured... but... at this rate I think we'd go mad, the next few days will be key.

Just lost my post .
Sorry that babies, mothers and in-laws aren't behaving. Hopefully we'll all have a great night's sleep tonight.
My baby started waving goodbye when you wave at her tonight
. Then she refused to go to sleep and we had to let her cry in her cot for the first time ever
.
I've been looking for a first birthday cake for her with Oliver from Baby TV on it. I can't find one, so I'm planning on getting a picture of him in icing and baking her birthday cake and putting it on top.
For those not in the know, this is Oliver...

Pigpen I know this wont make you feel any better just now but diabetes treatment and management has progressed light years from when I was first diagnosed back in the 1970's. In those days the syringes were large glass things that the needle had to be fitted on to and the insulins were pork and beef derivatives that I really don't like to think about too much! Blood glucose machines were a thing of legend here that a few select consultants had seen on visits to USA, instead us Brits got to rely on urine testing....which at best is inaccurate and hardly the best baseline for good management.
His care team will have him stabilised and coping with it sooner than you may think.
Though the next few years will be challenging at times as all of the usual teenage hormones make controlling it a bit more difficult unfortunately. Diabetes UK are and always have been particularly supportive of those diagnosed during childhood and may be a useful source for him during this early stage. 0 -
I am pretty ok with it.. cant change it so we are learning to deal with it.. so long as KH bucks his ideas up DS will be fine...
this might seem a daft question but.. his levels are supposed to be 4-9 .. so what level is too low at bed time.. obviously this has to see him through the night..
2 of mine are on growth hormone.. in the 70s it was bovine growth hormone.. almost every child develped CJD and is now dead... horrible thought!! (obviously growth hormone is from elsewhere in the cow so the risks are different to bovine insulin)LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Morning
Pigpen - Josh has a friend with really bad diabetes and he manages it himself just fine. He's a bit older but he's been round here and did a blood test and then injected himself before we had tea, and he knows what he's allowed and not allowed to eat. While it might seem hard now, once your lad gets used to it, hopefully he should be able to manage it himself.
Busy busy busy again with work. Took on masses of stuff over the next few weeks but should hopefully earn enough to buy some Christmas presents.
Have a good day all xxHere I go again on my own....0 -

Sorry this wont seem terribly helpful Pigpen but despite what the medics tell you it is very much trial and error when finding his safe bm level before bed. Unfortunately the types of insulin prescribed and his own metabolism will play a determining factor. Personally if I go to bed with a blood glucose level below 8.5 then I am almost certainly going to become hypo overnight but for others that will guarantee a higher than desired early morning reading. You are best to err on the side of caution to begin with and gradually increase his doses to slowly work on reducing his first reading of the day rather than over medicating and causing regular overnight hypos as these very often go undetected which causes a few few problems including unusually high bm levels in the morning as the liver takes over and does its thing to keep the sufferer alive.
It is always worth making sure that all friends and family are aware of roughly what his hypo symptoms are and any changes that occur in them because as he becomes more stable and has good control of his glucose levels his warning signs will gradually diminish and in many cases they will eventually disappear. (easily sorted by introducing a week of poor control with lots of cake and sweets being eaten!
)
If it helps any Pigpen a middle of the night reading done somewhere between 01:00 and 03:00 will be a great indicator of how his control is and what adjustments need to be made to evening doses. Not much use during the week but if you are able to get him to test while you are up doing night feeds with your youngest at the weekend and maybe even during half term which I believe is soon, it should give some helpful results.

He is currently on 2 injections a day which I am certain will change in a few weeks when we see the consultant.
Ive not been asked to do a God-forsaken o"clock reading yet.. I dont wake for night feeds.. she just helps herself.. I am the all night buffet .. so I would have to set an alarm and get OH to wake me.. I sleep like the dead.
thank you
