The main problem with indulging the attachment parenting naps kicks in when they get bigger in my experience. Ds2 was a terror for not being able to sleep alone and while that was fine in a 3 mth old once he hit 6 mths and what seemed like 20lb my back sure knew the difference lol. However I do think its not just about how you parent them as dd couldn't be more different - I can put her down when she is sleepy and she'll actually sleep as opposed to her brother who still fights it at the age of 3 .

Yeah that's what I found with DD, I didn't mind if she feel asleep on me when she was younger but when she got to a year and was still not sleeping on her own it got a bit much, I used to have to take her out in the car to get her to sleep just so I could get a rest for an hour or 2, I learned my lesson with J though he goes down brilliantly awake. Oh and he is in his own room and is sleeping better so far, he hasn't wakened up yet (fingers crossed) for his dummy :)

MV hope you see the doc soon, I can't remember how old Josh is but my PND started when DD was about 10 months, I thought it was just tiredness too and it went on for quite a few months. Once I seen the GP though things started to get so much better (and I didn't take anti D's). I will be more aware this time as will by DH but so far so good. Take care x

DD only has one nap now and has done since she was 1. I always feed her to sleep lying on the bed, it takes five mins during they day and about 20 mons at night but I love those times so I'm in no hurry to change them. OH struggles a bit more but just sits with her until asleep and at nursery they just pat her back until she drops off. I'm just weaning her from night feeds now and it's not going too bad, I just say sleepy time and pat her back and most of the time she goes back to sleep. We've had two night so far where she hasn't woken at all. This is probably much later than other people but I've waited until I thought DD was ready and it's probably been much easier to cope with because we are co-sleeping.

New one is due on the 30th April, I wanted a summer baby but it's true that you only need to do the deed once to get pregnant lol. Main worry is whether I will be able to afford to go back to work with two in child care - I love my job.

Sounds lovely Jenny too I also love t falling asleep on me and he transfers quite easy these days, still has about two naps though but the morning one is getting later.

Jenny - is good to know your LO's nursery can get her to nap as i was a bit worried as i often feed her to sleep that when at nursery she wouldn't sleep.

I am going to work on her naps when her night sleeping is a bit better, she has started self settling at night so when she gets good at that will work on it in the day.

    Hi everyone,

Well LO has started ti nap slightly better - I got the 'Baby Whisperer' book out from the library too which has given me great tips on what to watch for in his movements and behaviour as well as timings etc, some of it common sense (like by the time he has yawned 3 times put him down for a nap), but not to me as a first time parent...!

Am trying to wean him off 2 feeds per night and it's working fairly well - last night he slept from 7pm to 1am then I fed him, he woke again at 4 and I tried to 'Ferberise' and just went in to reassure him and say 'sleepytime' - it's worked for the past 2 nights which is fab, I really hope it's not just luck!
The way I see it, if he was really hugely hungry he wouldn't fall back asleep that easily?
It took around 5 mins and 3 visits in to him, and he went back to sleep.

I also do this now in his day cot, I reassure him and coo lots, then say sleepytime, and after a while he will look straight ahead for ages and I know that means he's nearly going down. He doesn't like sleeping in the nursery in the day, so I guess his daycot is better than nothing. I do sometimes still let him doze off after a feed but only because I am in no hurry to rush this stage, he's 11 weeks now, still very little.

Had a good flinging session this afternoon and took a car load of rubbish from the garden to the tip. Had a rotten wooden table, chairs and a garden bench which Josh enjoyed kicking to bits! Also flung a cracked plastic table, cracked bucket seat for the swing, a padded sun lounger as the mice ate holes in the cover last winter and pulled all the stuffing out, some metal poles and a toilet.

Still got a rusty BBQ but doing another tip run next weekend to get rid of that and some garage crap.

Pigpen is right - flinging makes you feel great :D

Hi all, just back from taking LO to a wedding in Spain. She is 10 months old today and we were worried it would be a nightmare and she would be unhappy.

She was happy as larry and slept on both flights, during the wedding, on the way to the reception and after the meal.

The only problem was that she refused to eat most of the trip. She ate half a feed and one bottle per day. She ate some Indian food one night, but that was it. She also did no number 2s for the trip.

When she got home she ate 2 dinners and had 2 number 2s within 3 hours.

I do technology transfer which means I help commercialise research that scientists at university do. Working just four days really suits me as I am still in the office enough to get all my work done but I have that extra time as well with DD so I don't feel I'm missing out on much.

Glad you had a good trip CL, how long were you away for?
