  • Separate issue - my 10 week old has a little red mark on one of his bits, is this fixable with nappy free time or does anyone know if it might be thrush? He has had nappy rash once but it was on the bum so I don't know what this is.

    Hi,
It could be nappy rash-all 3 of mine have had various degress of nappy rash on various different 'nappy' parts lol especially when teething! A bit of nappy free time will certainly do no harm, and you could try some bepanthen nappy cream of metanium (sp?) nappy cream
I would try these first and as long as it doesn't get worse, or is obviously causing him any discomfort, i would give it a couple of days then maybe speak to the health visitor if you're worried if it's not any better??

Well, we're having a quiet day today (by quiet i mean not doing too much as opposed to low volume, unfortunatley, as I think ds 1 and ds 2 would find that impossible!)
We were at my (8 1/2 months pregnant) nieces wedding yesterday! lovely day-luckily baby didnt decide to makes his debut-they found out they were expecting a few months after booking the wedding but decided to stick with the date anyway! but we're all soooo tired today-not helped by me coming down with a cold and ds 1 waking me up at 1am after being sick on his bed-luckily he's fine. I think it was maybe a combination of excitment, tiredness and too many sweets yesterday!!
We also travelled 150 miles last week to go to a family reunion and them less than 24 hours later travelled back, so I dont feel like i've stopped for the past week!!
Max is rolling more-but most of the time he cant be bothered lol and he's really teething now-soooo much dribble lol
Luckily he's still sleeping ok-that goodness for his thumb, which he has become rather attached to!!
I'm now going to go and look at eurio disney-in laws have said they want to take us next year as it is mine and dh's 30th birthdays and their 30th wedding anniversary. They going to pay for our passports, and have given quite a generous budget for it, so we can stay at the main big hotel where you can have breakfast with the characters-the kids are going to love it!!!!
it's been quite a good couple of weeks for us-bout 2 weeks ago I won £200 on a scratchcard, and the other day dh had a n email saying he had won some swanky phone-think it's one of those htc things, and a friend is giving me her maclarent techno xt pushchair which she no longer uses-i'm just hoping i can top it off by winning the lottery with the ticket that was in my little favour bag at the wedding lol (although if i won i think i may have to share with the bride lol) x

Many congratulations Jennynoo, when are you due?

Sparkle, any nappy is going to be pretty wet after a full night's wear. But the terry/wrap never leaks for us.

Re BLW & protein, I guess I'm just having a few wobbles because LO eats enthusiastically when its something she likes but rejects anything else and is getting more and more hesitant about trying new things. And I thought BLW was the road to avoiding fussiness.

  • Sparkle Has different bits in, from how many naps your baby should take, how long they can bear to be up before getting overtired and how to spot tired signs to get them to sleep.

Also goes through situations like if your baby will only nap on you, only sleep in the car, in a swing etc. It then goes through ways you can transfer them from sleeping on you to in the cot or car seat etc (but I like it as it stresses that as long as it is safe and you are happy with the situation then why change it - i.e. if you are happy with them sleeping on you then that's fine). Is there any situation your lo would nod off, for example t would sleep on me/in the car/after a feed but wouldn't just go in his cot (even now not guaranteed!). Do you have a swing/rocking type chair t would also sleep in here - but don't buy a brand new maybe you could try one from a friend or second hand??

I would def try the library for it as it gives different things to try which I like as some other books just give you one answer like let them cry.

  • Thanks for this Sir Monster - that's really interesting and given that Leo simply refuses to nap in the morning and will only fall asleep at night on the bottle, this could be a life line for me. I think i will check it out.

Poppy tends to nap a lot better on me, in pushchair or carseat otherwise she wakes up really soon. I keep thinking i shouldn't let her nap on me but i don't really mind so isn't doing any harm.

Took Poppy all the way across London to visit my sister for her birthday today, was in her baby carrier and she was really good. She was smiling away at people and fell asleep in the carrier on our way home bless her.

Becles and Merfe sorry you had bad nights - hopefully tonight will be easier... Becles feel better soon.

Tsstss7 what shaped bamboos did you get? And don't they take ages to dry? Wondering what you use at night too, as for now we are using disposables but I'd like to use washable if it was def going to keep him dry. I do have some pocket bamboo nappies and bamboo or microfibre inserts. I also have regular pocket nappies too, they are all birth to potty ones, have you considered those? Not that expensive - from £2.49 on ebay (without inserts) or up to around £5.40 with inserts. You can also buy branded ones but these are £12 and upwards.

Hi Sparkle the bamboo nappies I use are bamboosles (sp?). I cant say how long they take to dry though as I usually tumble. Sometimes they come out of the tumble damp so I hang overnight to finish off so I guess that means they do take a bit of drying - s'pose thats the price you pay for such great absorbancy....they are by far the best out of my random selection.

I have one pocket nappy but it doesn't seem to work as well as the bamboosles. However, I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly as I just stuff in any old insert. In fact I used it today and LO was wet on the outside within the hour so defo not our best (though it does look cute lol).

I do use the washables at night but tend to do a change around the 4am feed. On the odd occasion I've left her unchanged she has been a tad damp in the morning BUT the same is true of disposables as she does wee an awful lot in the night lol.

The best thing about the washables I find is that they are gentler on LO's skin. She's a bit prone to nappy rash in the disposals.

The main problem with indulging the attachment parenting naps kicks in when they get bigger in my experience. Ds2 was a terror for not being able to sleep alone and while that was fine in a 3 mth old once he hit 6 mths and what seemed like 20lb my back sure knew the difference lol. However I do think its not just about how you parent them as dd couldn't be more different - I can put her down when she is sleepy and she'll actually sleep as opposed to her brother who still fights it at the age of 3 .

  • Wendz I used to def find that but recently (last couple of mounths) once t goes off he has to be in his cot/travel cot as then will sleep for 2 hours or more, maybe something to do with being more active and less distractions??

Tss Yes there is no way I would let t sleep for hours on me now but I tend to let him fall asleep on my me (if unsettled) then move him before fully asleep into cot but then pat him in there to settle him - this seems to work as will sleep longer then but can't bear to here him cry for ages. Also I find using music or white noise can help to settle them, but prob have to try diff things depending on baby. At the end of it they aren't robots and you have to find what works for you all - good luck is something I have struggled with so I do know how hard it is I just thought babies slept when tired!

Congrats Jenny - that's lovely news xx

Had a good day yesterday  Charlotte liked "digging for victory" and brought the spuds home that she dug up.

Quiet day today, just pottering about at home with nothing exciting planned.

Have a good day all xx
Here I go again on my own....
