Hi ladies. Sorry I've not been on much but my LO is keeping me very busy! I've barely even lurked!

Sparkle you make me nervous - my DH is being a total legend but he's due back to work next week. I hope he doesn't suddenly think that his work is done?! I'm more than happy to do most of the work on his work days but when he's off I expect him to share the work and enjoyment. Time will tell I guess.

My LO is still suffering but there is definitely an improvement thank goodness. He's just had his first session of cranial osteopathic treatment and he cried during a lot of it but then fell asleep for 14 hours and only woke when I had to in order to feed and bath him. That is AMAZING for our boy especially as he slept during his normal scream fest hours. I'm not pinning everything on it especially as he hasn't had a good night but the night has still been fairly ok, it's just taken longer to settle him after feeds and he's quite grizzly. The osteo lady said she hopes there's a noticeable difference after 48 hours so I'm reserving judgement for now. He'll probably have another 2 or 3 sessions.

Does anyone have experience of using a cranial osteo, good or bad?

Claire or claireloo (sorry, can't remember which one of you is struggling a bit) if things haven't improved I'd certainly reccomend at least looking into it for your bubs.

Right I'm going to catch some more Zs so catch ya later

Is there a reason you need to be concerned about how much LO is taking? I never knew how much DD got and just decided she was getting enough if she had plenty of wet nappies.

That was like me. Sometimes they just had a quick 10 minute nibble, and other times they were on there for 45 mins and it felt like they were power sucking my insides out :o

As long as they were content and seemed happy, I didn't worry about how much milk they had actually swallowed.

House of sick here, with Josh and me and the dog suffering from a tummy bug. Already had to mop floors and wash the dog this morning and it stinks in here :o

Have a good day all xx
Here I go again on my own....

I was always worried to start with how much she was having but she has stayed on the same line on the growth chart so is obviously getting enough even if she is a snacker!
  • Thanks everyone just a quick hi whilst lo is napping, I'm happier today, LO made me smile even at 3am - he was so calm and contented, then started to make little stretches like it was waking up time and I was going noooooo, nooo wrong time... He went from 7pm to 3am so I got some good sleep then. At 5 he woke and then hubby got him up at 6:30 and there were tears as he was hungry so I got up but feel refreshed to some extent.

In terms of quantities for BF I am only worried about the expressed milk, because he only takes a little from OH and sicks up a bit of it. I may try the playtex teats which are made from something different and feel more like the nipple apparently. I need to feel sure that he will take a reasonable amount from OH before I am confident enough to go to lunch with friends or into town for shopping if you see what I mean.
Jennynoo maybe you can give me more suggestions once you have done some more at the support groups!

Also I see in your sig you are an attachment parent - can you give me a run down of the general things you believe in as I am interested in this movement?

Glad to hear things are improving a bit DL. Can't beleive Alistair slept for 14 hours!!!!

I think Claire was struggling a bit with reflux. Leo is generally a placid baby with (touchwood) no real issues other than he's difficult to wind but the Infacol is helping with that. Also, he has a real grumpy hour at around 5pm ish but on the whole he's OK. The main problem I have with him is he fights sleep so hard. I can see his little eyes getting so sleepy but then he fights it and gets overtired and grumpy. I was trying to get him to have his naps downstairs in the day in order to distinguish between day and night but he is too overstimulated downstairs so as of yesterday he naps in his crib upstairs. I had a whole 2.5 hours to myself yesterday afternoon - amazing!

  • DogLover thai's what happened with my OH to an extent, I guess because by the end of the week he's exhausted and wants some space. In the beginning he was hoping LO would be up when he gets back, but last few days he has called me and then heard baby crying loads around the 5-6pm mark and I think this has made him more aware of how hard it is. So when he got home last night he was more sympathetic.
Hopefully you can lay the ground work now so that when your OH goes back to work it's not the same!

Claireloo I have the same - around that time too - I use Dentinox sometimes but think mostly LO needs a short power nap betweek cluster feed at 5ish then 6:15ish. Except like yours he is too awake and refuses to... but yesterday he eventually napped on my shoulder once in the nursery after lots of tears. I wish I could get him to nap in the nursery in the day, he hates it and naps on his daycot or with me in the baby bjorn.

doglover I thought about taking Bob to a cranial osteopath, he was a grumpy baby but in the end I decided he would grow out of it as he is similar to DD and she did. He only gets grumpy if he is tired or hungry now and improved from about 3 months.
  • Hi there - I'm usually lurking, but thought I'd add that we took our little boy to a cranial osteopath when he was 6-12 weeks old as he was crying a lot, not sleeping too well etc. The results varied week to week, but we felt it was worth a go and eventually things calmed down. It could be that it would have done anyway as he got older, but we were prepared to try anything at the time!

Btw - I've posted on the grabbit board, but in case this is any use to you all, I've just found pampers sensitive wipes boxes of 9 packs for £3.50 in asda - best price I've seen for a while...
  • Afternoon all :)

We have survived the first week and are both completly besotted with Emilia :) She is a real person with a birth certificate now and somehow feels like mine which makes no sense i know lol.

She has quite a lot of dry skin but midwife wasnt concerned by it and said it will just fall off - anyone know how long this will take?

Also, im guessing this is a relative question, but how much of the day should she be awake and not feeding? She was awake for about an hour from 6:30 until 8, she did a couple of short feeds, winded, did a dirty nappy (which she screams blue murder about every time) and then slept til 8:30, had another 5 minute feed then slept til 10, nappy change and feed then slept from about 10:30 til 2 when she woke on her own and we did a nappy and another feed, she has now been asleep again since the end of the feed and im wondering if this is normal??

When she is awake she is alert and im not concerned about feeding (we are breast feeding and she seems to be taking it really well) or nappies and things, just wondering when i can look forward to spending more time talking to her lol :)

Wish i had some OH advice Sparkle but we are still in the honeymoon phase of paternity leave until Wednesday which i am weirdly looking forward to.

  • Hi Puzzled  Glad to hear you're getting on well with Emilia. Its very early days for us too (4 weeks old on Friday) but I can tell you Leo had very dry skin too initially which I was concerned about. I am pleased to say it completely disappeared by between 2 and 3 weeks. :D

Re the sleeping I'm completely at a loss as to what's going on with Leo - every day seems to vary so much o I'm not sure I can help but it does seem to be normal for newborns to sleep A LOT so I wouldn't worry about it.

Also just to let you know Leo screamed at first when we changed his nappy - now he seems to know that its part of life and just lets me get on with it. Sometimes he whimpers a bit if he's tired but on the whole he doesn't seem to mind nappy changes anymore.
