Claire please don't feel guilty, it's not like you chose to have inverted nipples is it! I don't think punishing yourself trying to achieve the impossible would have helped.
Aptamil comfort is amazing stuff, it should help
Tsstss definitely worth a look in your co-op, the one here is like yellow sticker heaven
Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

just popping in...CL jars - Fuzzlet has mostly Heinz mums own jars when she's away from home as they're tastier than others but tbh we're giving her more & more regular food so think LO would probs be ok with the spanish food, and if you're going to a popular resort I wouldn't worry too much about a dodgy tum

Whoever mentioned childminders..sorry I was only skimming:o I found the best way was word of mouth, council website, netmums and childcare website
Those with colicky babies....hang on in there it does get better..honest:A I thought we'd avoid it as DD was breastfed...hah! what a pile of tosh that BF babies don't get it! Anyhoo, we found that warming a blanket on a hot water bottle, laying it over her stomach(while she was lying) and rubbing her belly in clockwise circular motions helped, seems a faff but you can actually feel the bubbles dispersing if the colic is really bad! And as she got better we found it helped her to have a dummy....don't know the ryme or reason behind it, just know it worked and she found it easier to release the wind down the bottom rather than the top.
I 2nd/3rd or whatever having time to yourself, a 5 min walk to the shop did me wonders:) Although I did find it hard to leave her with Daddy the 1st few times:o Soon got over it though;) Be prepared to feel guilty for the 1st 12 weeks of their lives too..after that you just get used to the feeling:rotfl::rotfl:

Yay Claire great to see you over here as well! You sound almost identical to me even down to your DH doing most nights. I did one recently and ended up staying awake till 5am and felt totally incapable the following day and spent a lot of it in tears convinced I was worlds worst mum. My perfect DH is brill but back to work in about 10 days and I'm dreading it!!
Which formular were you on before changing to Aptamil? Has the change helped? Which bottles do you use? We're using SMA so if you think the change has helped the colic I may try it with our boy. I'm just worried that changing could create problems?
Beccles that pic of Charlotte walking your dogs is so cute!0 -
Hi Claire! Nice to see you here. As others have said don't feel guilty about not bfing, sounds like you had it very hard.
Thanks for the websites for childminders confuzzled. Does anybody know how far in advance you book up with a childminder? I am prob not going to need it till March time but if we don't go with childminder i will need to get place at nursery.
Have had a busy day today, went to rhyme time at the library this morning and then we went to the under 1's group this afternoon.0 -
Hi All
Don't feel guilty about not BF claire. Unfortunately it just doesn't come naturally to everyone. I gave up at around 3 months after struggling for weeks and getting very stressed and upset about the whole thing. I felt so guilty at the time and like you thought "maybe if I'd just tried a bit harder..." But for us, FF was definitely the best thing and made for a much happier Mummy and much happier (and fuller) baby.
Wendz I started looking for a childminder before Joe was even born as they are in high demand where I live. No-one had any spaces at the time so I registered him at a nursery. But luckily a space came up with our CM whilst I was on maternity leave. So, based on my experience, I'd recommend starting looking around as soon as you can.
CM was taking Joe to messy play today, which is one of his favourite activities. No doubt he'll be coming home in his spare clothes!
I quite like the Halos and Horns stuff too so I might have to pop to our co-op and see if they have any bargains. I don't think I've ever seen it in there before though.
Yay for Sqeak standing up on her own, PP. So does this mean Dot's arrival is imminent if Squeak is about to start walking??You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -

She is nowhere near walking and that few minutes of standing is all we are getting by the looks of it! Lazy dollop that she is..

Beasts back from school... it was 3:15 by the time we got there.. oopss.. and they had been sent to the office.. so the teacher took pity on my and rang across for them to send them all over .. there was no way I could have walked across the yard and back.. Id have died halfway there!
Freezer crap for dinner as they are at God Squad .. OH is making himself a salad after I bossed him.. I am having cocodamol, a cuppa and a kip i think!

Hi Claire - good to see you over here. Like others have said, don't feel guilty about not BF. Easy to say I know - I am having to top up Leo with formula as I just cannot make what he needs. After my C Section and following complications over the next week he lost loads of weight from 7 lb 5 oz down to 6lb 5 oz in 5 days - MW advised to top up with formula but now he is used to the bottle teats and I can't get him to latch on so I'm expressing what I can and topping up with Cow & Gate. He got weighed yesterday and is now back up t 7lb 9oz - over a lb in a week!! So I know its for the best but I can't help feeling annoyed at my body for letting him down. Also, I'm not going to lie - expressing 4/5 times a day is becoming a real faff and I know I won't keep it up for much longer but if I can do 3-4 weeks I'll feel I've done my best.
I'm dreading Leo getting Colic and I understand it starts at around 3 weeks so I am waiting in fear at the moment. Good tips on here for soothing colicky babies though. :TLeo James arrived 7 days late on 26th August 2011 by emergency CS :j Such a cheeky chappy now :T0 -
Hi all
Haven't been on for a few days...busy busy and L is into everything so I never get a minute!
this is absolutely true. I have worked (and still do consult on it) a lot on walking programmes and initatives which aim to get people to walk more for their health and wellbeing - both walking for the sake of a walk and walking for travel (instead of taking the car or bus for short journeys). The recommendation is to do 30 minutes 5 days a week but that can obviously be built up to and broken down into smaller segments. I also find L has always slept better after some fresh air!
If anyone is interested in the benefits of getting outside and what it can do for mental health, have a read of some of the reports on this site if you've got time:
http://outdoornation.org.uk/the_evidence/
I found it really interesting and I've been spending more time outdoors since and feel better for it.
follow your instinct. I spent ages worrying about getting into a routine and it's my only regret, as I didn't enjoy the early days enough. If he likes to sleep on you in the day, don't worry about it...they grow out of it and now I wish L would cuddle up more (and he's not even one yet!)Hi - well he's only 11 days old so I am prepared for all sorts of trouble to begin. We do struggle to get him to settle of an evening - he just doesn't want to go to sleep from around 5pm to 9pm but this was the time he used to go crazy kicking me from inside so maybe thats just his wide awake time. I don't know if what we're doing is "right" - we just feed him when he seems hungry or failing that try changing him. I don't know when I need to be thinking about routine - everyone seems to have different advice and perspectives on this. My instinct tells me he's too little at the moment. We'll both get there I'm sure xx
Re the breastfeeding, you CAN make enough, midwives know very little about breastfeeding. Not at all wanting to stop you giving top ups or whatever works but the main way to up your milk supply is feed more, in a couple of days it will respond. There's also a growth spurt around 10 days when it will feel like you can't fill him,but the idea is to up your supply. oats will also boost supply, so porridge/granola/cereal bars/flapjack are great. feel free to pm me if you need more info or support, I'm now a bf peer supporter (as are others on here) so happy to help if i can...and I overcame a few struggles to keep feeding L myself. No pressure though. xx
baby cafes can also be good
There's also some great info on www.kelleymom.com
right, have a report to finish so I must get on!!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
Glad mummies with kids back at school are getting a rest.
PP love picture of squeak, does she let go at all?? T stands on his own for up to 10 seconds and today did a couple of steps, but is so good at crawling don't think that fussed.
Claire Have you tried nipple shields as they can help if LO is used to the bottle, as Rach said may be worth going to a bf cafe. Think is hard re the bf/ff thing as demonstrated a lot of women do want to bf but for one reason or another are not able to continue (usually lack of support for their issues) and then feel guilty as you have read numerous things saying bf is best etc. Have you seen the breastfeeding bus http://www.acornpack.com/content/all-aboard-breastfeeding-bus think is great at explaining the issues.Thomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces
