Thanks CL. Did your LO take to them fairly quickly? I tried J with lumps a while back and he gagged so I left it for a bit before trying again and that's just kept on happening. I guess I just need to stick at it until he gets used to them.

She did take to it fine, but isn't really much cop with finger foods. She seems to suck them, chew them, but swallows very little.

I must persist with them though, and ignore the mess!

    Morning

Sucking and chewing and only swallowing little amounts of food is fine. Milk is still the main "food" until they are a year, so don't worry if they appear to eat hardly anything.

Definitely ignore the mess. That continues right through until they leave home I think :D

Off to work this morning. Have a good day all xx

Hi all just want to add my 2 penneth re:food & poos:o:)
Lottie $h!ts for england! Its not unusual for her to do upto 4 poo's a day.....and they reek!:rotfl: We generally get 2-4 solid poos and sloppy ones when teething..oh the joy:D

Food, she eats what we eat, upto her if she likes it or not;)..when at CM she has baby jars just coz I'm a lazy mummy:o As for gagging with lumps....L did the same and we persevered with her as I just assumed it was her getting used to the texture and now she eats anything, lumpy, smooth, out of the bin:o...including (mild)curry, not bad for 8 months eh?:p Only thing we've found she doesn't like is cucumber, we think it's too bland for her!

My main tip for different foods....don't be nervous about it..DH becomes a wrech when she trys new stuff so it's me who puts on brave face and tell everyone it's fine..even though I aint sure myself(neurotic parents much???:D) seems to be working with everyone, DH is more confident with her foods and Lottie is thriving..even surprises me whe she whips food out of my hand and manages to swallow with no choking...this is how I found out she loves bourbon biccies:o
We also give her pasta but I don't bother cutting it up into smaller bits, just cook her fusilli pasta and let her pick it up and munch away, never had an issue:)

Right back to packing up the office.....currently undertaking an uber office move...such fun lol

    xx

We are poo number 2 already this morning and she has only been up 2 hours!

She eats anything and everything.. she doesn't like cauliflower which I fully understand or cucumber due to it being slimy and she only eats cheese mixed with other stuff but everything else goes down.. rabbit poo, cat food, dog biscuits, etc...

She was fairly useless with finger food until about 9 months..now at 11.5months we aren't allowed to feed her any more which is costing me a fortune in baby wipes!!

That makes me feel a bit better PP. My LO isn't really interested in finger foods, but I think it is probably my fault as I tend to give her finger foods as a snack and not really at meal times when she is most hungry. She isn't a lover of milk and some days only takes three 4 oz bottles, so I want to make sure she gets enough good food in at meal times.

Any tips for finger foods an 8 month old would really like?

I think it is all hit and miss.. Squeak loves the organix ice cakes.. apple and raspberry are her faves. She likes cheese straws and biscotti and cereal bars.. the annabel karmel ones are her favourites she crumbles the other to bits as they are too dry. Shreddies, mini weetabix, mini doughnuts, crumpets, cold cooked sausages, bacon, chicken dippers.... she eats the lot... all in one go if I let her!!!

She only has 1 or 2 breastfeeds a day so I tend to give her loads of yoghurts, mix cheese in with other stuff (like baked beans, mac. cheese) ready brek etc

She loves chips from the chinese too... and prawn crackers... she goes mad for noodles and beansprouts.. a couple once every 3-4 weeks won't kill her!

Oh we are having a Chinese at my Mum's tonight, so must try her with a prawn cracker. It will knock her right out of her routine. She's usually in bed for 7.30pm and we have to be at Mum's for 7pm, but it's for my sister's birthday, so we will just have to try to let her have a late nap this afternoon, in the hope she won't be grouchy this evening. Fingers crossed.

So it's just me being a wuss about giving J lumps then? :o

This is the attitude I need to adopt because I really don't want to end up with a fussy child who refuses one thing because he knows he'll be offered something else.

Lumpy food it is from now on then :)

For you ladies with older ones, is it normal to get to around six months and feeling absolutely shattered with this parenting lark?

I still don't feel recovered from the pregnancy/birth, can't remember what a full night's sleep is like but mostly just drained from trying to keep LO entertained throughout the day. I look forward to the weekends but having OH around doesn't seem to make things any better. He won't get up early so the day begins with playing with her from around 6 am. Then it just feels like I am watching the clock all day for when I can next put her down for a nap. She is pretty good with her naps, but still the days feel soooo long and each is the same.

After the fantastic reviews on here for the jumperoo I was so looking forward to picking up mine, but she actually seems upset it in (maybe cos she's small for her age - she can barely reach the toys and she mostly cries or chews the seat). Going out to do stuff is just stressful (she cries so much) and staying in even more so. Just feel I'm sinking.

One bright spot this weekend, our rescue cat has been shortlisted in the Battersea Pets Photo Competition - any pet lovers here want to vote for our cat to win, please vote Diya on the following facebook link: http://www.facebook.com/Battersea?sk=app_212228392152549

Hi Mit3 - only just seen this post, have been wondering how you were getting on.

I think your OH should be helping you more at the w/e. When you say he won't get up early, is it that he works late on a Friday or something, or is he just lazy?

If you even have a suspicion that you may have a touch of PND you should see your GP. Hope things start to get better soon. x

My OH moans about having to get up early at the w/e, he still seems to be under the impression that w/e's are for lying in! I have had to explain to him on several occasions that we kissed goodbye to lie in's a lonnnng time ago!

I find the idea of staying in all day with DS a stressful one, but am making myself do it from time to time as finding things to do everyday can be knackering (and expensive!)

We have stayed in today and it's not been too bad. DS is happily bouncing away in his jumperoo at the moment, and has had a couple of naps today so I've been able to ebay some things and do a few bits and bobs around the house.

I don't think I could stay in more than once or twice a week though!
