Whoops, I got my terminology wrong:o sorry to mislead:o Intention was to do BLW but she wasn't gaining weight bfing or on formula:( so went onto purees before 6 months as she seemed too young for BLW so now we've introduced what I guess you'd call finger foods...baby brain mixed with working seems to have confuzzled me!

  • Bigbird I was giving my lo the soya and linseed bread, which he loved, but have changed him mostly to white bread for now as his nappies were just full of seeds and they were getting everywhere! So I guess he wasn't managing to chew or digest the seeds at all.

I'm the same Fuzz, really just trying to introduce finger foods into the mix now - which I'd probably be doing anyway at this point.

Thanks Miss Ladybird, I did wonder if he'd be able to digest the seeds. I might keep him on the white bread for now as he poos enough already - 3 or 4 a day sometimes  I've not dealt with this much poo since he was a newborn :rotfl: So I don't want to make them any more hassle to deal with than they are already :o

I'd agree that BLW should be something to start with and skip purees altogether. I think that's partly why Joe had his choking incident - he's used to being spoon fed things he can swallow easily, so he tried to swallow a chunk of baby corn he had in his mouth and then choked on it.

I think the idea is that with purees the baby learns to swallow first and chewing comes later, whereas with BLW they learn to chew first and then to swallow. (But feel free to correct me!)

Did someone say they give their baby seedy bread? I've been giving Joe DH's white bread as I wasn't sure if he could have my soya & linseed bread.

We'll have to give blueberries a go. We tried strawberries at the weekend, but he preferred squishing them rather than eating them :) We also tried mango, which was highly entertaining as it was so slippery he couldn't hang onto it and it was pinging off all over the place :rotfl:

Josh is getting big, MV! Joe was 18lb 8oz at 5 1/2 months and he is quite a big lad - he was 9lb 4oz at birth. No idea what he is now as I can't make it to the baby clinic now that I'm back at work :(
I also agree re the terminology, in some ways doesn't matter but for me blw is a bit more than just finger foods. I remember CL saying she made an educated choice to wean her babe the trad way, I guess I did the same with blw. the blw book is well worth a read for everyone considering it.

L loves blueberries, he'll abandon everything else when they come on the scene :rotfl: poo is almost black at the moment lol. not good on my lovely white nappies!! he does also like strawberries, mango is a bit hit and miss and he loves kiwi.

it was me who gives L seedy bread, it's the hovis seed sensations one, i might not give the soya and linseed as it has a lot of linseeds in which might make him get the runs!

I haven't taken L to the clinic for over 2 months, have weighed him on the elec bathroom scales though and he was just under 20lb. Our scales go in 1/4 kg so thought that would do. I weighed him on his own adn then weighed me (gulp) and then weighed him and me together and came out the same.

My first AF since getting pg has arrived :( my mooncup feels uncomfortable which I guess is just cos i'm out of the habit.

I'm still trying to get to the bottom of the mess that's my maternity leave. Not sure how much I said but it tuns out even a fixed term contract can't just end on ml so the info i'd been given by head of dept was completely wrong and HR were expecting me to come back basically as soon as my mat leave ends and leave taken (9 months which i'd said i was taking ends 19th june) and work 12 weeks notice they will issue me then whilst they try to redeploy me. I still have no clarity from them and clearly can't go back as we've no childcare because they had told me i wasn't going back...plus still bf 4-5 times a day! Currently trying to agree that i can go on the redeployment list whilst on unpaid mat leave.

    Hello :)

Did anyone happen to watch Real Rescues on BBC1 this morning? A 7 month old boy was choking on food, and almost stopped breathing. Things like that always upset me for some reason, hate seeing babies/children ill. Then there was a 5 year old who rang 999 as her mom wasn't well, i will def tell my son how to ring 999 when he's old enough and what to ask for/say :)

Afternoon! My son is currently throwing himself round the room in his walker and squealing very loudly - the kind that cuts right through your head! Wee monster!

Keelykat - I can't watch anything like that without getting a wee bit upset as well - i think cos I imagine baby/child on screen as my DS! That choking thing happened to my cousin's wee girl - ambulance had to be called etc. Was a bit scary but she's fine now! Think I'll also teach DS that too (the 999) even if all he can do is dial the number and say his address!

Forgot about kiwis and mangos! THink I need to go to the fruit shop tomorrow. Had the chunky monkey weighed this morning at breastfeeding group. At 35 weeks (he was 8 months on Sunday past) he is now 20lb 6oz and he was 10lb 10oz at birth (I know - it was kind of a shock to me too!). No wonder I can no longer carry him in his car seat! His growth rate has slowed down a bit but nothing bad. HV told me this morning to start offering snacks mid-morning and mid-afternoon instead of a milk feed (he's getting first thing, mid-morning, mid-afternoon and bedtime at the mo). Not sure what he'll think of that!

I'd still offer the milk feed too Nepthys, depending on how long you want to bf for, at least for the aft one for now. L has a little snack some afternoons if we're out and I'm having a cuppa, usually just some fruit or rice cakes.

I think your LO is a bit younger than L, L was born 23rd sept? Was due 2nd oct tho. DId you have him naturally at that weight?! ouch!

Hi Rach, I think I was going to offer him some rice cakes or fruit or something and then offer milk after just to see what he does.

Yes, I was due 5th Oct and he arrived bang on his date! And yes had him naturally - gas and air and one shot of pethidine. They had no idea he was that size. Midwife said if had been smaller then the perineal massage I did would have worked and I wouldn't have needed to be cut. I had a good labour and delivery though (thankfully cos the pregnancy was a bit rough!) and I was just relieved he was out safely!

Hello ladies Lovely to see so many with babies the same age as my youngest. She is nearly 8 months (born 13 Oct) but is so weeny compared to all yours - just 13lbs!

Have had a lovely few days with my 2 girls - since V started crawling (about a month ago) her sister has taken to major jealousy issues and smacking her/pushing her when she's near her toys. Today, she's realised that she can actually play with her and do her all time favourite thing - dancing - with her. (With mummy's help) So cute!

And blueberries also a favourite here, they would both eat a packet at a time - I just cut them in half for the small one.
