    Hello,

Can I join you lovely ladies :)

My DD, Esme, was born on 19 March and is currently 10 days old. We're both still adjusting to our new lives - but loving it. I had a bit of a drama last week, when at the 5 day check she had lost 18% of her birth weight :(:(:(

Good news is that she was weighed for the third time today and she is just a few oz short of her birth weight now. But this is largely due to having to top her up with formula. So we are now combination feeding whilst we continue to work on our BF'ing - we have our good days and bad days, so any advice is welcome.

I hope everyone and kiddies are all well x

Welcome Sammy :) The best way to make sure you are feeding enough is to feed on demand so whenever LO asks for milk you give it - they can't drink too much at this stage. However this includes feeding at night as well, the easiest way to do that is co-sleep however I realise that's not for everyone but for me it really made feeding at night on demand easier. I noticed on another post you mentioned lots your timings - I would stop watching the clock apart from keeping it quite at night time, unless you have a really sleepy baby there shouldn't be any need to wake them to feed them although you might want to keep them awake to make sure they finish a feed - tickling feet or blowing on LO worked for me. Good luck!

Just had a phone call about a St Johns Ambulance session at my surestart center. It's free to attend and it's this saturday.

Anyone been on one? I've done first aid courses about 15 years ago when I was a girl guide! I guess it's also another opportunity to meet other mums...argh but I'm getting so worked up at the thought of going! Wish I was just more outgoing and didn't care about doing new things and going to new places with new people.

Giz, I did a first aid course as part of my parenting classes. It was really good learning how to deal with a choking baby etc. we got to practice on dummies as well. Made me feel much more confident when we started weaning.

And talking of weaning the guidelines are changing - it was on bbc breakfast recently that they are changing the guidelines to start weaning between 4 - 6 months if baby seems ready. They also said to bf until 2 years as it has significant benefits but not many people manage that.

Beccles - glad to hear your operation went ok, hope your brood let you get the rest you need so you recover soon ;)

Smartie - hope you feel better soon too.

Well, I've been busy recently new boss, spring cleaning etc. but all of it wore me down and I've now got tonsillitis for the second time this year. I took Wednesday off work and sat watching tele all day which was more boring than I was expecting. Starting to recover now. Erin developed a mysterious rash, she is teething, has happy rash, also has what looks like heat rash over her tummy, arms and back but then also developed a very red rash on the lower part of her face yesterday which was so bad the nursery rang me to worn me how bad she looked before I picked her up (we thought it might be an allergic reaction although she hadn't eaten anything new). OH took her to the docs this morning and they have decide she has eczema :(. Going to google it in a bit but if anyone has any advice please feel free to share with me!

Hugs to anyone that needs them.

Hope you feel better soon jenny.

Josh had eczema when he was younger but he's grown out of it now. Certain products irritated him and it was trial and error finding things that I could use to wash him and his clothes.

We had cortisone cream off the doctor which helped when it got really bad. He seemed better in the summer when he was getting more fresh air round his skin as he had shorts and t-shirts on, rather than in winter when he was wrapped up in trousers and jumpers.

Meant to say this morning that the St Johns and other first aid courses are well worth doing. You never know when you need the skills. My Mam did one. My brother choked on a piece of biscuit when he was a toddler, but she was able to hold him correctly and smack him on the back to get it out and no harm was done.

Charlotte called in to see me before she went to nursery at lunchtime and brought me a lovely bunch of flowers - bless her!

My Mam was going to keep her this evening too, but I don't feel too bad so I'm getting her back after nursery.
Here I go again on my own....

    Morning!
    ...

Had an email to say Charlotte has a place at the Catholic primary school from September so I'm really pleased she got in.

Hope your day gets better Merfe and hope everyone else has a good day xx

Glad the op went well Becles! I'm so jealous that you already know she has a place, was it the school or the council placement team that sent the email?
We find out by post sent them out on 26th April and we have until 11th May to reply. I hate the not knowing:(

Jenny both my boys have eczema, they have Hydromol bath additive and Chris has Hydromol cream, Edgar has oilatum cream. when you put the cream on put twice as much as you think you need and you'll be alright :)
We've had a long haul with terrible nappy thrush week3 just finishing now and Ed's botty is still not totally clear. We've been using canestan HC (from GP) and colloidal silver spray, getting there slowly!

It was an email from the LEA this morning, followed up by a letter and acceptance form in today's post.

Waiting is the hardest part. Hope you manage to get into the school you want.

    .

sorry, but the guidelines aren't changing - Department of Health still recommend starting solid foods at 6 months in line with the international World Health Organisation recommendations. The baby food industry would loooove the guidelines to change though..........

I'm the same re groups only go to the free ones as many a time me and Rach have wheeled our lo's to the library group only to find by time we've walked up they're both asleep! Plus 'taster' ones I have been to (free tasters) I end up feeding t sat on the floor (not very comfy) for about half of it, I think I'd much rather feed him at home for free with a drink or at the children's centre type groups which are more relaxed. We did make it to the library group today though but both fell asleep whilst we had our coffee - perfect!

LL you reminded me of dentists - when do you start taking lo to the dentist as he has got two ickle teeth now.

I took Squeak when I took everyone else in December she was 4 months old and hasn't a single tooth.. it was more getting her registered and used to the idea of going rather than actually being seen.. the sounds and smells and stuff.

I'd just make him an appointment as soon as they are accepting new patients and get him in then.. though he may be 5 before the dentist gets to see his teeth!
