    Hello,

Can I join you lovely ladies :)

Lovely to have you with us xx

I hate baby weights and I wouldn't get too hung up on them. As long as Esme is happy and seems to be feeding well, just go with the flow and let her be.

I was worried sick as my eldest was always underweight, but he's just naturally built like a stick insect and has been fit and healthy throughout his life. I hardly got the other two weighed at all as I was happy they were doing fine.

Been to a really tough boot camp this evening. She had us holding a medicine ball above our heads and we had to run right round the field with it. It was really, really hard and everyone struggled. Loads of boxing as well which I really enjoy though.
Here I go again on my own....

@sir monster - so are you weaning and breastfeeding, or still exclusively breastfeeding? I used to think when people said they were breastfeeding from 6 - 12 months that they were breastfeeding and introducing solids but from being on a breastfeeding forum it seems people exclusively breastfeed during this time. I'm so confused about it all really.

I haven't set myself any timelines - just going through each day as it comes. It's got a bit better again although DDs latch is getting a bit poor - so need to sort that out.

What a day yesterday - DD was awake so much I think she became overtired and very grumpy - cue ear piercing screaming sessions where nothing but her sleeping on our shoulders would fix!

I managed to feed her about 10pm (she was really grumpy) and put her to bed and she slept through to 6am! 8 hours sleep straight :j I'm putting that down to the fact that she stayed awake so much though.

@Sammy - I think I have you on FB so have tried to help a bit with the BF. Good to hear you are still trying with the BF.

I checked my bank and I have got my Child Tax Credits :j I assume it's back dated 7 weeks as it seems double the amount I expected. This really is a bonus as I didn't even know until about 3 months ago that I would get this. Get paid tomorrow and it will be my first full pay on SMP so it'll be interesting to see how much we will need to dip into the maternity fund. I'm secretly hoping I'll never have to touch it then we can buy a kitchen with it when I go back to work!! Not likely though.

Oh I have a question about breastfeeding. When babies start sleeping through the night, do your breasts adjust to this? Because I was soooooooooo engorged this morning after 8 hours of no feeding. My boobs were pouring and I had to express one to relieve it (she only really feeds on one breast each time).

They should do. It'll take a couple of days before they realise what's happening but once your breasts get used to the idea, they should adjust. They're quite clever things really :D

Josh was talking about something and said he would be about 5 to 10 minutes. Charlotte interrupted and sternly said "errr Josh, 9 comes before 10, not 5" :rotfl:

She came in from nursery yesterday and told me she'd made a mothers day card, but not to tell anyone as it was a secret. Don't think she's quite got the hang of surprises yet :D

No work today and just pottering about at home. Want to get everything clean and tidy before my op tomorrow as I'll not be up to doing housework for a little while. Also making a big lasagne so they can have the other half warmed up for the teas tomorrow, as I don't think I'll be up to cooking :D

Hope everyone has a good day xx

Giz we are introducing solids, we waited till 6 months and went straight to finger foods/baby led weaning route as no faffing about with making up purees/freezing them and defrosting them just basically give them a bit of what we eat (obv within certain boundaries) but he's had all sorts my current favourite is t grabbing spaghetti. He is def taking it too as see bits of whatever in his poo, he loves brocolli but that makes such a mess both when eating and in his poos! Re boobs adjusting they should do as t pretty much sleeps through so there are a little sore in the morn but not as bad when he first started though, although if he just takes one side I express too as find it a little sore.

Last time I checked, about 1-2% of people started weaning before six months so the proportion of people who start later than six months will be extremely low. I imagine however that there is a higher proportion on a breastfeeding forum as people doing something less usual IRL are more likely to be discussing it online so that could make it seem more common.

Also the American Academy of Pediatrics advice on weaning (or at leastthe advice 3 1/2 years ago when I was looking) is to start at "about" six months but that some babies could be ready as early as four months or as late as nine months (unlike here where they say do not start weaning any earlier or later than exactly six months) which may make a difference if it is a mainly US based forum you are reading.

  • Sorry bit confused with your reply Susan but maybe me being dense!! I read that 1 -2 % of babies at 6 months were just being exclusively breast fed which rings true with my (limited) experience, I was one of the few that seemed to wait till 6 months and at the time he was just on breast milk (but had taken formula top ups in the months previously but just one bottle a night usually). Again from my limited experience there seems to be a rush to solids like it will be a cure all for sleepness nights etc - again I'm glad I waited, but just seemed easier that way for us all.

I've also gone down the baby led weaning/finger foods route with L. We started at about 5.5 months as he was grabbing food all the time etc, and he's doing really well. Some days eats more than others but is definitely eating plenty mostly. He's tried so much and like sir monster i didn't want to be faffing with purees etc. It's also great fun when we're all out and about together!

giz - lucky you re the sleeping. L has phases of sleeping well and not so well, though we were really lucky early on but he's still not really sleeping through. But I'm sure he'll get there one day. last night he went down at 7 (we get him down 7-7 every night, the number of wake ups is changeable though!) and he woke at 10.30 and then 4.30 and tbh i was glad to feed him at 4.30 as i was engorged then! But the night before he fed at 11.30 and then went through til 7, though i did have to pop in and put his dummy in at 6.

We've decided against crying it out as we can't cope with it, never mind him, so are prepared to take longer and go down the no cry sleep solution route!

think L is definitely teething, keeps pulling off and crying when feeding and gums are hard at the bottom. however this has been on and off for months so not getting excited til i see a tooth! have been using the a&p powders which seem to really help, despite dh telling me they are mostly sugar!

I've just managed to secure a couple of larger size nappies traded on another forum, L is growing out of his others fast!

I think Squeak is teething again, she seems to get teeth in pairs, so if she does that again this time she will have 8 teeth

I've never tried the a&p powders but the boots teething gel has done us fine

    It's raining buckets here, sadly.

    Hope today goes OK Becles.

Was going to go get my blood test today but can't find the form. oops.
