Nope, that could still be 1st class, RM will collect from very large customers over a weekend and the the RM network still works over the weekend, just is reduced, has been like that for a good number of years!

on Amazons volume
a pound or two saved on postage can add up to a lot of money over 000's of items
so its a balance on losses vs postage savings

My item ordered on Saturday has been despatched using a courier , its a small Sylvanian Family worth £3

I ordered a 2nd item a digital camera and that's being sent First Class

Maybe Amazon are just marking everything down as 'dispatched' but in-fact, they don't actually dispatch them?? This is not even a joke, I ordered 5 ink cartridges on the 29th of December, STILL not received but then, I've ordered books and blu-ray's since yet I've received most (late, but received).

This nonsense about how Amazon say that their systems have a problem and sending things out as first class as someone said... what nonsense, a company that is able to operate web services and has huge websites world wide with many computer programmers hired (presumably!) ... i just don't buy it!

I think there's every chance you're right on this, and that they're covering this over by blaming Royal Mail for the delays.

Same here, two orders sent saturday arrived today (via RM first class).

I also got a Sunday delivery again yesterday from RM which caught me off guard.
