I have just noticed that, it now says 2 business days , but then there is the option of one day delivery, but they still sent it First Class

    Delivery Options: ( Learn more)
Choose your Prime Logo delivery speed:
FREE First Class (up to 2 business days)
FREE One-Day Delivery : get it tomorrow, Friday, January 14
£4.49/item Express Delivery : get it guaranteed by 1pm tomorrow, Friday, January 14

Exactly! I tried to explain this several times on the phone but the op couldn't seem to get it. He accused me of deliberatlely selecting first class instead of one day. Why the hell would I do that if I have a Prime account? I always make sure the correct box is marked and it makes no difference. I have sent another two complaint emails this afternoon and I have asked them NOT to send me an automated reply. I would be amazed if it's not!

I mentioned that a few days ago deanos.

Listing the same delivery service twice, but giving one of them a "get it next day" tag and the other one as "2 business days" when they are fully aware that whichever option you choose will more than likely result in the package going exactly the same way is at best dodgy trading, and at worst, downright lying. (or to put it another way, fraud).

    Why don't Amazon realise something.
Even the service provider they are using for the majority of prime deliveries state the method they will be using that is not a guaranteed next day service, so for them to clearly state "Get it next day" is wrong and it should actually read "You may get it next day. Unlikely, but you never can tell"

I totally agree. i personally think it is a deliberate attempt to pull the wool over our eyes and to save them money. THIS IS NOT A PREMIUM SERVICE. We are being conned. Can we report them to Trading Standards or something? Like most people on here, I got conned when signing up in the first place. A few months after I ordered something I noticed they charged my £47 odds for it! Rather than cancel I decided to utilise it and in actual fact it worked out really well. Since I renewed the service nothing has been sent using RM Special Delivery, which I am very unhappy about.

Nothing's changed for me over three years - they normally just use First Class post and always have done. I've accepted it because they've never actually said that they'll use anything faster than First Class, and their line has always been that Prime just gets you priority handling, and therefore faster delivery.

It does add a degree of certainty to delivery dates when Royal Mail isn't in the mess that it's in now, but whether that's worth £50 a year is becoming doubtful.

How do you explain these options then?

First Class Delivery - 2 business days
Prime expedited delivery - 1 business day

Not one item has been delivered next working day since I renewed my Prime account.
  • For those that doubt that the "Prime" delivery service has been downgraded, simply go back through your purchase history and look at the wording used on the invoices.

Up until August last year, the delivery was shown as
"Amazon Prime: Expedited Delivery is free " and every one of these expedited deliveries was received next day and was sent with tracking.

Now for Prime deliveries they state
Amazon Prime: One-Day Delivery is free and every one of these "one day" deliveries has been sent first class and have all been anything but one day.

If they haven't changed anything then why did they feel the need to stop calling it expedited delivery?
I order about 15 to 20 items a year, and £50 for Prime membership is an awful lot to pay on top of the cost price of the items for a delivery service that now offers little or no extra benefit compared to their free supersaver delivery.

I just spotted something fairly significant in my account. If you go into the 'Your Account' section and choose 'Manage Address Book' you will notice in here that the delivery mehod states the following:

Dispatch method: First Class (up to 2 business days)

This QUITE CLEARLY SAYS 2 BUSINESS DAYS SO WHAT THE HELL ARE AMAZON TALKING ABOUT?!

There's nothing I hate more than being ripped off and that is exactly what is happening to us. They are an absolute disgrace to even do this in the first place. It is bad enough deliberately trying to catch people out by making them pay £49 after a month's trial if they don't cancel in time (this happened to me). I also don't like the fact that they decided to automatically renew your Prime account annually by default. Two blatant attempts to bring in more revenue knowing fine rightly that the average user won't even notice ths. They are a bunch of con artists and they can shove their Prime service. I will be doing everything I can to get my money back.

I'm not here to defend Amazon. I don't like what they're doing any more than you do (particularly as most of my deliveries over three years of Prime have just been by First Class mail).

I've argued this out with them time and time again, but they won't budge on their interpretation of the T&C (though I have had the occasional £10 out of them by way of a 'gesture' for a 'good customer').

Their line is that Prime gets you priority in packing and despatch. That (they say) accounts for the difference of one day between the 2 business days quoted for First Class Delivery and the 1 business day quoted for Prime expedited delivery.

I'd be amazed if Watchdog were remotely interested in this (particularly as they're not on-air at the moment) but I'd be delighted to be proved wrong. ;)

    Here's Amazon's reply:

Dear vipergrm (edited for the purposes of this forum),

Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.co.uk.

From your e-mail, I understand that you are disappointed with our Prime delivery services as you have not received your orders next day.

I have reviewed our previous correspondence with you and would like to offer my sincere apologies for the misunderstanding.

First, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused due to the Amazon Prime Delivery and we thank you for highlighting this issue to us, and we would be glad to work on such feedback about the Amazon Prime membership program.

Please know that most of the orders dispatched via Premium delivery service will be delivered on the next day as we promised. I'm sorry, this was not happened in your case.

This is not a common occurrence but when it does happen, we take full responsibility and will endeavour to find a solution.

We use carriers which we have found to provide the best service for our different delivery options. Our ordering system automatically assigns a carrier to your order when it is ready to dispatch.

In December, there has been issues with the deliveries especially that an increase in orders during Christmas rush. Added the weather problems thus there was a problem with the backlog of orders that may have resulted in the delayed orders until January.

I understand that Premium delivery means, the item should be delivered within one day from the date of dispatch. Please note that we will instruct the carrier to deliver the package within this time frame.

We expect all of our carriers to deliver a high level of reliability, however, and where this has not been reached we will take the appropriate action on the carriers to improve our services.

We have a team of experts who extensively research on the orders which are not dispatched and delivered on time, and they would take actions based on your feedback on Amazon Prime and your recent shopping experience.

Rest be assured that this delay was with the carriers and not with the shipping option you selected while placing the order.
(you shipped it using standard first class so IT'S YOUR FAULT!

I have passed your message along to our concerned department, as I know they will want to read about your experience.

I can also assure you that the same delay will not be repeated again. We are aware that our choice of delivery services reflects on our business as a whole, and we appreciate your feedback.

I apologise for any inconvenience this matter has caused and would like to express our gratitude for the patience you have displayed thus far.

Thank you for your understanding and shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

I chose "No, this did not resolve my proiblem" and sent the below email. A little bit of a rant I know but still, I really don't like what they're doing here. Apologies for the use of caps but they really are getting my nerves with these useless, robotic replies!:

No, this DOES NOT help me at all. Your email states "Rest be assured that this delay was with the carriers and not with the shipping option you selected while placing the order." How many times do I need to mention that YOU ARE NOT USING ROYAL MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY TO DELIVER MY ITEMS! Despite ensuring that one day delivery is selected, it quite clearly says on my account under Your Account >
Manage Addresses and 1-Click Settings that the delivery method used is first class 2 BUSINESS DAYS. THIS IS NOT A PREMIUM SERVICE. Please change this to what I signed up for in the first place. One day delivery. I repeat again, first class IS NOT ONE DAT DELIVERY and never has been. You chanced this in December without ever mentioning it. If you want me to go on I will list every order number which I have placed, none of which have come withing three days never mind two. I know Citylink had problems over Christmas with the weather as did all couriers but TEN DAYS is unacceptable.

203-6780432-5145143 dispatched 11 Jan by one day delivery (you sent it only by first class and IT STILL HASN'T ARRIVED

202-0665573-8995517 dispatched by Citylink next day on 31st December delivered 9th Jan (10 days)

026-4230577-6715503 dispatched by Citylink next day 28th Dec delivered 6th Jan (9 days)

026-2994901-0224350 dispatched 20 Dec by one day delivery (you sent it only by first class) arrived 28th Dec (8 days)

202-3833562-7734742 dispatched by Citylink next day 20th Dec delivered 30th Dec (10 days)

026-7724692-3417904 dispatched 7th Nov by ROYAL MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY arrived 9th Nov (Tuesday). This was the last item I ever received on time.

You can see from all the orders I have placed above that NONE of them have even come close to one day delivery. I fully believe I should be compensated in some way for this. I will say one final time. YOU ARE NOT SENDING ITEMS BY ROYAL MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY ANY MORE. Surely someone know why this has changed??? If this is a permanent change thenI would like my Amazon Prime account cancelled along with a full refund. I've spent thousands on your website and I expect a much better service than this. Sort out your delivery methods!
