This is slightly off topic I know, but on the subject of fag butts...since smoking was made illegal in public places (yeah right) all the bus shelters around here have had the bin taken away from them, obviously to stop people smoking in them, oh well yes that works doesn't it! Now the stupid tramps just drop their butts right on the ground..good work council!

Can just see "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" complaining to the local rag that the council have banned smoking but left the bins in to encourage law breaking. No win situation really.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

We are obviously going to pay it, and reading about it I do understand why they are doing so, but just never occurred that people dropping Macdonalds litter getting fined, let alone a cigarette butt!!!

This is how the law works.

The government creates thousands and thousands of laws; not even the most seasoned lawyer could hope to understand all of them. There is no compulsory education about the law in schools so the average citizen has no chance of knowing what is illegal and what isn't. But break one of these laws and get caught and you pay the penalty whether you knew what you did was illegal or not.

genuine question.why did you think it was okay to not use it before?

I Did use the ashtray before just a one off stupid event. But the thing that galls me is that parents and i have witnessed this just drop soiled nappies on the street.

anyone that does that is vermin
I have very little time for people who litter
i end up with all kinds of rubbish in the car/bag/pockets etc when me and my boy are out and about
why should someone else have to clear up for me

Actually, some new ones dont, Mazdas dont have an ashtray or cigarette lighter as standard.

Actually, I have an issue with people smoking whilst driving anyway. To my mind it can be as dangerous as using a phone.

I can see that and thank you for caring about others enough to post this thread.

Honestly, I can't believe the responses you're getting. I have NEVER seen a smoker put a fag end in the bin when they're outside. They go on the ground and get thrown out of cars ALL THE TIME. Now you know not to do it and you've had the courtesy to tell others too. So why you're being bashed I don't know.

I think its because the poster seems a little miffed at the fine, pointing out that they are not the only ones doing it and that there are worse things they could be doing to warrant a fine hence the response you are referring to.

I am miffed at the fact the abuse headed my way as if I was responsible for EVERYONE'S fag butts on here and that I have never heard of anyone getting caught leaving huge piles of rubbish, and that the money isn't going to go anywhere useful and just be wasted on council extravagances rather than making the district a better place.

So please don't misinterpret my words, I am not miffed at the fine, and at no point have I said we shouldn't be paying it!

your miffed at the abuse, what abuse,

we are at the end of a pc in other parts of the country so dont take it as abuse
  • OK I will retract the abuse word and replace with keyboard warriorism where it is so easy to judge and be perfect because I must remember no one on here makes mistakes do they, it's just me. I posted on here knowing this was going to happen, as I too agree, if you are going to post on a public forum you will get peoples' opinions. These opinions however are totally unrelated to my actual point of making others be aware of the law, that may have been as naive just like me!
  • Yes I smoke, big deal, I dont drink, and that is far more dangerous

I know this thread is about littering, so apologies for going off topic but....drinking is not "far more dangerous" than smoking.

Drinking in moderation is not dangerous, in fact it can be beneficial to your health in small quantities. Smoking can never be beneficial to your health. Every single cigarette is detrimental to your health. Approx half of all smokers die from smoking related diseases. You can't say half of drinkers die from drinking related diseases.
