genuine question.why did you think it was okay to not use it before?

    I've always wondered this too:o

I have two hypotheses - not using the ashtray somehow makes the car fresher and easier to sell and my husband's - it easier to just flick it out the window (I've just though, it might be a tiny bit safer too if you're driving).

If people drop litter and get caught then they face the consequences of doing so, i see people using the designated fag end bins dotted around the town,
  • Thanks Gingham Ribbon, this is the thing, I was just trying to be money saving for others that do smoke, as £50 is a hell of a lot.

I have been trawlling the net to see who else out there is in the same boat, and found on another discussion, "It's only quite recently that fag ends have been considered litter. Until a few years ago it was totally normal to put them out on the ground, the same way it is not considered litter to drop crumbs while eating a sandwich today."

It was socially acceptable when I was growing up and I was not brought up in a bad area.

scooby088 - in what county were you fined? Had you heard about this before? Agreed, expensive lesson learnt, and in a way I am glad the point has been raised to our attention. Just a shame the cash isn't going to go to good use. xxx

  • Honestly, I can't believe the responses you're getting. Now you know not to do it and you've had the courtesy to tell others too. So why you're being bashed I don't know.

I think its because its MSE. It happens on all the threads. Hats off to the OP for continueing to post, most getting this reception give up and are never seen again.

  • Thanks Peter, I knew I might get flamed for this, I just think some people are acting a bit high and mighty, when no one in this world is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, be it stupid or not.

    xxx

I commute to work on a Vespa every morning, and have never had an issue with cigarette butts, not that it wont happen. What is more dangerous to me however is when people use their windscreen spray and it goes straight over their car and into my eyes. That stuff burns!

You need to be careful, if might make you drop your cigarette :D

It's not safer if it's still lit and hits a pedestrian or cyclist or goes in their eye!
3 stone down, 3 more to go
  • Saw a sports car once with the passenger having an umbrella up. Not sure how long it lasted.
