...and then who'll be moaning when the budget is spent and crime rates go up. The police purse is not unlimited. Dragging thing out to "annoy them" just wastes valuable resources that could be used elsewhere. You might not agree that littering is the world's greatest crime but I applaud the attitude of the original poster when she says they'll just pay up. It's easily shown that attention to lower grade crimes and what can really only be described as bad or anti-social behaviour has a real, positive effect on crime levels. Surely that is good?

Oh dear me , Littering keeping someone in a job oh please. The councils are cutting down on all resources from a pot that is not endless, Penalty notices are handed out by civil enforcement officers who work for the council , wether it is doggy dodo , ciggie buts or onion skins. I dont see why she shouldnt get a fine or pay it for that matter. Down right rude , is what I say , I hate people that litter..

I just want the money to go to a good cause. Not see it wasted on some of these things councils seem to be extravagantly spending money on.

Well,as it as now taught you and your husband not to litter why don't you think of it as being spent on "education"?

No because it hasn't been spent on "education" has it, apart from us paying for a mini course. A letter in the post and paper does not equate to £50/£75.00 for such education

I recently had such a fine too for littering, the only proof they had was a photo of the back of my car thats all they had no actual proof of me littering. i paid the £50 fine and i do now use the ashtray in the car. an expensive lesson learned.

Its common sense to NOT drop litter whether its a fag end, apple core or anything else but to throw it away in a bin,

Honestly, I can't believe the responses you're getting. I have NEVER seen a smoker put a fag end in the bin when they're outside. They go on the ground and get thrown out of cars ALL THE TIME. Now you know not to do it and you've had the courtesy to tell others too. So why you're being bashed I don't know.
