Get yourself a helmet with a visor that way when you are travelling behind the car and you get the spray from it,you will get your visor cleaned for free.
Littering is littering no matter what form it is in,and thank the lord for the roadsweepers and refuse collectors of this country, could you even begin to imagine what the streets would be like without them.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -
How did your husband get the fine notice - was he stopped by a police officer or was the incident recorded on CCTV?
Could the cigarette end not have been dropped 'accidentally' out of the window and your husband had no opportunity to stop and retrieve it?
If he pays the fine can he expect to be banned from smoking for a year as well!0 -

I think this woman was driving behind him. As said we are just going to pay it, and put it down to an expensive lesson and helping save the earth.
You are right though, if he had accidentally dropped there was no way of stopping to get it. I just couldnt live in the fear of court and more fees. If some guy in our local town is going to have to pay thousands for appealing a banana skin we have no chance!0 -

From the driver's perspective of course.
They might feel it safer to flick it out the window rather than grope around for the ashtray.
Not saying it is but really trying to understand why smokers, in general, flick their rubbish out the window far more than other car users (again not saying that other people don't do this but it seems much more likely to be a cigarette than other rubbish)0 -
From a personal perspective it really really did just seem to me to be the thing everyone did. I have never known anyone to use an ashtray in a car. I know this is now wrong, but looking around on the web, I am not the only one that thought it was different to throwing something non combustible out the window.
We would not have done it if we had really thought about it because we end up with bags of rubbish in our car, as we do not throw anything else out the window and always find a bin!0 -
as regards littering, I can see the argument that it may disintegrate over time with the rain etc...but looking at the number of cigarette butts around...it is a problem and should be tackled....
but now then...
what about people that spit their chewing gum onto the street...thats a really big problem...it sticks to the pavement, the road, your shoes etc...then....it hardens like a blot on the pavement...really unsightly AND practically not cost effective to remove at this stage...I say increase the tax on chewing gum...I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
Rather than totally lay into me, because you think it is a disgusting habit cant you just see I was literally trying to help others as stupid as me?
This person is right! They are not saying they didn´t do wrong, nor are they saying they will not pay the fine. They are offering a reminder to other smokers and litter bugs that actions face consequencies, that is all!0 -
A fine for littering should be accepted if:-
a) you did do it or
b) they have proof it was you or
c) they use the correct legislation to issue the fine. Too many try to use the "disposal of hazardous waste" legislation which is not right.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
This is slightly off topic I know, but on the subject of fag butts...since smoking was made illegal in public places (yeah right) all the bus shelters around here have had the bin taken away from them, obviously to stop people smoking in them, oh well yes that works doesn't it! Now the stupid tramps just drop their butts right on the ground..good work council!0
