As far as littering is concerned, I heard a local bobby on the radio who said 'If you wouldn't throw it in your own garden, it's littering' in response to questions about crumbs etc - it seems like a good rule of thumb to me and covers almost every hypothetical situation pretty neatly.

Ive got a mate who chucks his butts in his garden.

If fag butts dont rot,why arent we knee deep yet?
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.
  • Yes I know, please read my post somewhere above as everyone has the freedom of speech. I am just merely wondering what your motivations behind the snide comment was.
What did I say in my pvt message earlier.......they wont stop digging!!!!!!
  • Wowee. I have seen some harsh comments here. The OP was simply advising people who may have otherwise been unaware of the fact that dropping a ciggarette on the floor is a £75 fine so beware. If you dont do it, thats great, but is there a reason to hang, draw and quarter the OP just for providing information?!?!?! I am shocked at how judgmental and anal some people on here are.
On a seperate note, thanks for the info OP, as a smoker, I am now aware of the fines thanks to your post :-)
    Peace

Well, there has to be an exception to every rule! ;)

In terms of why we're not knee deep, I would suggest probably down to the street cleaners...

LOL - I love a Sunday flogging just before my Roast Dinner :D

Thanks Dave Hughes - I am glad it helped someone from potentially getting a fine xxxx

I also appreciate you understanding my reasons for posting on here x
  • I am miffed at the fact the abuse headed my way as if I was responsible for EVERYONE'S fag butts on here and that I have never heard of anyone getting caught leaving huge piles of rubbish, and that the money isn't going to go anywhere useful and just be wasted on council extravagances rather than making the district a better place.

So please don't misinterpret my words, I am not miffed at the fine, and at no point have I said we shouldn't be paying it!

Why are you assuming the Council will spend it on extravagances?
  • well done to the council, its about time smokers stopped littering, they have to be the worst offenders. makes me sick when they smoke and chuck it away or when they through it from their car window. about time the government banned it from any public use, we stood in a queue the other day and ignorant person behind was smoking, why should normal sensible people be subjected to the mindless people who smoke.
  • And why should we have to walk through parks where there is dog turd? Surely these dogs should be kept in doors and smokers in their homes to. God forbid they are allowed to leave the house.

If you didnt want to be near smoke in an outside place maybe avoid and come back later. We are allowed to smoke outside, and while I am considerate and dont stand near people, at the same time that is one thing that isn't illegal, so sorry, but am glad this person wound you up as you are obviously such a nice non judgemental person. :D

And I do not see how butts are worse than MacDonalds wrappers you find in towns! I hardly notice butts, but takeaway rubbish is a real eye sore!

I think this woman was driving behind him. As said we are just going to pay it, and put it down to an expensive lesson and helping save the earth.

You are right though, if he had accidentally dropped there was no way of stopping to get it. I just couldnt live in the fear of court and more fees. If some guy in our local town is going to have to pay thousands for appealing a banana skin we have no chance!

Who was this woman? Was she a police officer or council employee?
How can she be 100% sure that your husband was driving the car?

Most of the posters, myself included, are trying to give you some advice so your husband can get off with this.

However we need the full facts to best advise you.

What law is he supposed to have broken?
  • Thanks Talla - that is really sweet of you.

We are really just going to pay it.

The facts are in case this helps anyone else are as follows:

Council Employee. Hubbie was originally sent a letter stating he had been seen dropping litter whilst driving down X road in x vehicle at x date. He confirmed he was driving, but as we are so against throwing "litter" out he replied there is no way he dropped any litter.

They then sent a FPN saying in light of our response they were issuing it under the Envirmonmental protection act 1990 sect 87.

That is as much as I can give I think xxx

I appreciate you trying to help xxx
