This being a thread about littering....I think that some of the biggest culprits are the postmen/women.I know this has been covered on this site before however i see an ever increasing amount of those redish coloured elastic bands littering the floor every morning.

we know where they come from and we can guess even the person doing it,but nothing as far as i am aware is ever done about the amount of elastic bands that they drop.

I like our local postperson, but hey he has a ruddy great big bag over his shoulder, why not after he has unpacked his lastest bundle can he not just put them back in his bag and take them back to the sorting office.

put that in a colour i know you can see

so when you put the bands in the bag.what do you think happen when you grab another bundle out the bag?
all those bands you put in the bag get caught in the bundles and fall out.
i personally never had a problem with bands.
kept them on my bundle holding hand.then dumped them in whatever bin came up first.
however i bet i still dropped some without knowing.

just so you know i know of posties who have been fined for dropping bands.
does that make you feel better and we can now vilify the OP?
  • About time people started getting done for it. Its so bloody dangerous chucking a fag butt out of the window of a car imagine being behind on a motorbike and the butt gets caught up in an open helmet. DO CARS NOT COME WITH ASHTRAYS ANYMORE

Smokers are the biggest litterers going just throwing the butt when theyve finished having a puff especially in town centres ........ and don't even get me started on dogs mess dog owners are just as bad... imagine letting ur small child poo on the pavement what on earth would people say lol

Off my soap box now ...(ex smoker who never smoked in car)

    I've always wondered this too:o

I have two hypotheses - not using the ashtray somehow makes the car fresher and easier to sell and my husband's - it easier to just flick it out the window (I've just though, it might be a tiny bit safer too if you're driving).

Many years ago some gormless git threw a ciggie butt out their car window as I was walking down the ajoining pavement with the buggie. The butt went straight into my toddler's lap. Safer? If I'd have caught that driver it would definately have been the more dangerous option that day. As it was my little boy ended up with a burn on his bare leg.

    . Smokers are human.

They don't smell like normal humans :D That said I have now managed to practice holding my breath so that I can stand next to them for 5 minutes or so without retching too much :D
  • I enjoy smoking. I also enjoy flicking my fag as high and far as possible. Away from me.
I am inconsiderate but then again what would you expect from someone who neglects their health and shaves five minutes off their life every time they smoke.

Ahh now Mr Custard...i can see now why you have become a little how should i say irate, you are an ex postie.

Maybe i should clear up a wee matter for you, this i believe although no doubt you will go on to proove me wrong has been covered on this website before, and that is posties leaving there elastic bands on the floor.I feel and i dont quite know why that i must claify the issue, that being that you may have been an excellent example of a postperson,im sure that you delivered you letters on time, without delay and with the odd whistle as you went about your day.

Unfortunately most of your ex co/workers did not have the diligence that you had,im quite sure that you kept your laccy bands and put them in the bin, however i am going by what i see on most days and there is an abundence of the bands littering the pavements in the area in which i live.

as you quite rightly highlighted that im sure that not all post people of this great land dispose of there bands in a manner in which would irritate the most staunch of eco minded,i was merely refering to the postie in my area who in matter of fact is a really decent sort of chap,if not tardy on some days but im sure that it is of no fault of his own.

Thankyou for highlighting in red for me,but alas i fear your time was wasted as i am colour blind, which is why i said redish coloured bands, thank the lord that the wife was here to point out for me your oh so considerate use of colour.

I am of course thankful that we still have a useful and viable postal system in this country,oh by the by the posties that you know of that have been fined for dropping bands....well littering is littering.

I do apologise to Mr Custardy for not putting a Y at the end of his name in my previous post.

After reading this thread I was parked outside a hospital today waiting for my daughter and noticed 4 people including an Ambulance driver all smoke and throw their cigarette butt on the pavement, one of them actually did it in front of a policeman and policewoman who were waiting outside but they just carried on chatting.

    Hi guys,

We have just recieved a fine today of £75.00 as my husband was seen throwing a butt from his car. Not very money saving at all!

We are obviously going to pay it, and reading about it I do understand why they are doing so, but just never occurred that people dropping Macdonalds litter getting fined, let alone a cigarette butt!!!

So am just warning anyone who has this bad habit like us to think twice before throwing it out the window!!

People dropping fag ends really wind me up they are litter and they should be put in a bin no excuse..if we all dropped one fag end a day the world would be an ashtray. I hate walking into the pub via a sea of dockends disgusting smelly things.
