Can we set ourselves an aspiration of no heating till December? Detailed forecast until 28th October shows exceptionally mild weather. No cold weather in long range forecast either. Let's try and get a grip & make sure heating on Dec-Jan-Feb only, and we can use the £££s bunged to us towards holiday/saving/short break next spring etcYoungBlueEyes said:
Unless something drastic happens we might make it to Nov without putting it on.5 -

10° here today. No more than 13° - and rain nearly every day - for the next two weeks.5 -
Mine hasn't been on yet and I'm trying to leave it as long as possible, I do have a coal fire in the lounge which I will light before thinking of putting the heating on

Our heating hasn't gone on yet. It's switched on and the thermostat is set to 18 degrees which is a comfortable temperature for us but it just hasn't kicked in. We've recently had our insulation updated which I'm sure has helped, and also we spend most of our time either in our living room or bedroom, both of which are south facing and get very warm on sunny days.Spend less now, work less later.3

Most definitely not! It may well be forecast to be mild where you are but there are other factors at play too - eg type of property, what kind of heating you have etc.arnoldy said: Can we set ourselves an aspiration of no heating till December? One over 70 and one mobility limited over 80 here and we need the heat. Even though we use extra layers of clothing, throws etc and are well versed in frugality, we're already needing it early morning and late evening. We've cut down in other areas so we can be comfortable during the winter months, not freezing to death.
Good luck though if you can manage it.Be kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Had mine on for about 2 hrs yesterday, only on low as I was babysitting GS4 and our lounge is sooo cold I wanted him to stay warm. Its off today and OH and I are in extra layers and I have some of those lovely cashmere handwarmers to keep my hands warm when I type.Making the debt go down and savings go up

I hope to last as long as possible (rural south somerset), t-shirts are borderline now - sunny days but cold are better for me than overcast and mild - while 14c day and 10c night may be mild for outdoors if there isn't enough sun the temperature indoors will drop downwards to match it outside - whereas a good bit of sun can lift indoors by several degrees.arnoldy said:

Ours went on for half an hour first thing this morning as I was on an early shift and loathe getting dressed in the cold. My excuse was that it would be warmer for DH when he got up.
Coming home this afternoon, the house was definitely cold though the thermostat is still on 16C. Cup of coffee and a cake while still wearing my coat and now I feel better. Coat is off, now to change from uniform to layers.
Who else finds the ambient temperature at work is higher than needed, and doesn't help us acclimatise? Though to be fair I wonder if my employer has turned the thermostat down a degree this year.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

It was another really gorgeous autumn day, more like late summer with beautiful turning leaves

The house is retaining enough heat to be comfortable but that is no the case for everyone, I know having visited a friend earlier. Hers was a new, small and well insulated house but it was also cold.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
