Wonder if this is some sort of policy.
Shortly after I posted here at 9:30am I tried to reconnect but to no avail. I've only just been able to reconnect now - 7 hours later  !0 -
Yep, as soon as I logged off, after the above post, could not get back on again until now, I am about to get through to the contact page and rocket them, if that is possible, probably will be ignored, ....... oap0

Strange how some people are able to connect and some aren't. I couldn't all day yesterday and yet today has been fine, except for smtp.
Odd... :huh:I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!0 -
Back on at 5-20pm after trying on and off since 11am.0

To GuessWho and Victor-Delta,
Thanks for your replies, very much appreciated. However I have been trying to get access in the ways you suggest, with no luck, for the last 2 weeks!!
The Horde Web Page for speed-mail.co.uk will not accept my old password or the qazwsx either. God knows what V21 changed it to, or why, as my original password gets me on line and lets me send e-mails!! They just won't let me have any incoming speed-mails, - password rejected is all I get!
I hope D Field takes pity on me and gets in touch!!

I think there will be pain in the short term while they shuffle and transfer bits over to their network, but as i said, it won't last forever. It will eventually stabilise and calm down.
At least the problems are being caused by their engineers carrying out work. If people were suffering these problems without any work (or very little) being carried out, then there would be genuine cause for concern.exprog wrote:I don't care about the email but occasionally test the situation.
That's the big lesson that other people should learn from all this. Not to rely on ISP-related email for important stuff. It can be unreliable and also locks you into that ISP. Far better to use alternatives, and just use the isp-related account as a *throw away*
Also, i'm not being critical of anyone <no, really>, i know how annoying it can be to suffer disruptions to service, but i think some people possibly have unrealistic expectations for the service provided. It is possible to pay four or fives times the Fast4 (Biscit) monthly dialup charge with a reputable broadband company (as i do), and still the demanded guarantees to service are just not there!
That's not to say it's a poor service, it is in fact extremely reliable, but the ISP will not make any sort of guarantee unless a business standard product is ordered.
Fair enough, really0 -

Probably the reason for all this is to try and reduce the number of new tickets which appear to be coming in rather rapidly!
Obviously being generated by people suffering as the network changes continue.0 -

I think the answer to all your problems
(email-wise, anyway, is Mr dfield)
get him to put the email account back into their system
sending is no problem because you do not need the password on that smtp server, it isn't authenticated.
Receiving is a problem because your account has been missed out of the new system

exprog wrote:Don’t bother with your settings. This is there problem not ours. I have not been able to connect, via these jokers, for weeks. Dial up Connection always comes up with
“Dialing...
Connected to remote computer.
Verifying user name and password...
Invalid user name or password.”
That happens with all three 0808 numbers including the new 3172 one.
I've been on for well over 3 hours too and I'm only on dial up.
Update:- 3h 50mins so far.
Update to Update:- 4h 5mins so far.
I think outside the box - I can also think round corners.0 -
Like others have found again today that no access possible for hours but obviously corrected at the moment. Others describe the frustration of this matter and I join them in such sentiments.
I also disagree with the apologist(s) choosing to defend businesses that fail to communicate with their customers, deprive them of funds (theft) and fail to deliver the contractual obligated service.
It is as if the whole ethos of this site (ie to be the consumer's portal to ensuring the most aptly priced services and products) is to be forgotten to sympathise with shambolic companies.
Has Martin's aim to get consumers to demand they get fair treatment been all for nothing? We should rather just accept the communication companies failings since 'that is the way things are'?
These companies are formed to create wealth and if by sucking up large numbers of customers by offering what seems to be a decently low priced product then they receive a greater quantity of fees even if not the highest value per head on the market. If they didn't calculate the exercise to make money they wouldn't give it a moment's thought.
WE the aggrieved customer base, should be perfectly entitled to get what we are told we are paying for; that is our aim. The machinations of company takeovers are for the few at the top who aim to maximise their wealth; no matter how their dealings mess up others lives (including the staff they lay off with scant notice as part of their masterplans).
If IT speculators take on more technical challenges than they estimated causing systems to melt down, then that shows poor leadership and bad business practice. We the customer base had no part in engineering those problems so why should we be sympathetic; especially when so many pledges made have not been met, when original contract holders dump us without any proper details or notice, when we get nothing for our payments for weeks, when our lives get disrupted so severely.
Odd how there is repeated INSIDER knowledge bled, whilst most posters are completely in the dark. I feel there is some manipulation of bias here and Guess What? Some call it 'spin'.0
