Now it has just occurred to me that with our insurance there is an ombudsman, and water companies, electric etc, do you think there might be an ombudsman for isp's? Cheers, oap

Yep, that would probably be Ofcom

and an utter waste of space they are ;)

Taken willfully without authorization from another person is not necessarily theft, you have to prove dishonesty which in this case I believe is almost impossible.

OK let's split the proverbial hair; you would have to prove in a court of law that taking 3 payments in 5 days was intentional and not an accident.

Chris, you clearly aren't a subscriber to fast4/V21. I would also suggest there's a good chance you might be a copper?

That is not my opinion but the definition of theft. Unfortunately people cannot make up their own definition of the offence which you are clearly trying to do.
Even so, surely there is nothing stopping ordinary citizens making a complaint to the Police ?

The Police should then follow up that complaint and interview the company's bosses as to their intentions, and how they are dealing with the matter.

There are all sorts of possibilities, but until the Police (or someone) actually speak to those individuals, we are all in the dark, since the company appear to be pretty poor at communication </understatement>

Well, Chris, if this reflects the attitude of the Law in this country and therefore its' police force, it's no wonder many have lost faith in it, aye?

But, and I repeat, perhaps you would like to enlighten us on how you regard these transactions?

Putting a more constructive spin on this problem would be far more beneficial to us all!

You're not the V21 CEO in disguise perchance?

I`ll tell you all what happened to me when I was with PowerGen as my ISP.
They decided to sell the business on to an ISP called Breathe Internet.
Pgen gave us all plenty of warning and if you didn`t want to transfer to Breathe you could cancel online.
I cancelled, but needless to say,Breathe took no notice and continued to provide a connection (which I had the good sense NOT to use)and also take money from my bank account.

Because it was on a credit card my bank were virtually useless in helping, insisting I had to sort it out with Breathe.

After many phone calls to Breathe, all 0870 as is usual with these fly-by-nights,and getting nowhere fast(all promises and lies but no action)
    I eventually contacted OFCOM.
Within a week I received an email from Ofcom saying they had contacted Breathe and someone would phone me.
After 7 days when I had heard nothing,I contacted Ofcom again to tell them Breathe hadn`t bothered their *rse.

Within an hour Breathe was on the blower to me, apologising for the "mix-up" refunding my money and offering a few quid extra as compensation.

So in my experience I wouldn`t call Ofcom useless.

    Wow, lucky you!

I don't think many people in the recent Euro1Net/E7even fiascos had much of a good word to say for them

But here's some links, i'll be filling in this form this afternoon, and will see what the outcome is,
Maybe also give them a ring tomorrow,

I cannot understand why it is so difficult to cancel a simple dialup account with this ***** outfit!!
I can see some issues with ADSL, but NOT dialup

Hi Hana, this is a little OT, but since so many people are suffering email problems, the info may give them ideas to try alternatives in the future.

If this is what you want, then i would perhaps have to give further details how to set that up

But i think you probably have enough info to decide if this is for you,

    Regards

WOW, Thanks for this!! Really useful.

I don't think it is over the top, to be honest. This is the first time I've had ISP problems, and the thought of changing my primary email address is daunting. The idea of an email account independant of ISP and therefore constant is rather appealing! And for only a few quid too.

Certainly I'll be looking into doing this, and have plenty of info to get started. Can I come back to you if I have a problem further down the line?

    Ok, you're welcome, Hana

obviously i have no way of knowing how much you already knew, so apologise if it's OTT ;)

I'll be around for a bit longer yet :)

So if I take someone's car willfully, without authorisation, it isn't theft until they can prove I've been dishonest?

Aaah, we're misunderstanding each other. I meant that the registering of a domain wasn't OTT, you're talking about your post being OTT. And like I said, I'm naturally blonde - need all the help I can get!!
