Like most in this thread i have also had connection problems with Fast4 but now another problem !!! I now have to redial every hour when it use to be every 2 hours. It only seems to have started today.
I am on the £4.99 dial up package.

    Anyone else noticed this ?

Yeah, I've noticed this too, it started two days ago with me. Haven't been too bothered though, as I've set my settings to redial as soon as I'm disconnected and frankly after the problems over the last 5 weeks, I'm just grateful I can connect at all...

Am losing the will to live now. Have finally been pushed, broadband with another ISP, here I come!!! Biscit are really taking the pi**. The term ISP is a joke. They're not Providing a Service at all, Internet or otherwise.

If it helps, Biscit is a member of the ISPA, see link below. Is far too late now for me to read through the code of practice and retain and useful info, but I would guess we could complain to them... Apologies if this has been posted previously...

    http://www.ispa.org.uk/home/

    It does state though, that:

    8. Complaints Procedure and Sanctions

Each Member shall notify ISPA of a single point of Contact ("Contact") for the Member authorised to deal with ISPA complaints. The Contact shall be familiar with the ISPA Complaints procedure.

And the only listed contact I can find for Biscit is jmackenzie@biscit.net
Anyone heard of or from this person?

Hana, I don't wish to sound a cynic, but isn't that a typical police response to any robbery these days!

Unfortunately the Police have to deal with things within criminal law and not civil which this clearly is. Oh and by the way, please look up the definition of robbery.

    Dial-up.

A lot of people on here complaining about email, think yourselves lucky!

I haven't even been able to connect now for about two weeks.

As someone else said, 'good job its not my main email account'. I have several, my favourites being on gmail.

Should anyone like a gmail account they can send me a PM

Any monies taken willfully without authorization from another person is a form of theft, in my book, and therefore should be classified as a criminal offence.

Perhaps you would like to enlighten us on how you regard these transactions?
I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!

Hi GuessWho, Any advice on registering your own domain please - like how does one get started etc etc. .

Hi Hana, this is a little OT, but since so many people are suffering email problems, the info may give them ideas to try alternatives in the future.

There are two separate stages to this, really.
    1) Checking a domain name of your choice to make sure it is free, and then registering it
(by the way, stating the obvious, you don't have to put a website up for that domain, but you could if you wanted to, or forward the domain to any webspace if you had any)

    2) deciding on how you want to set up emails

I would suggest you use 1&1 for this (i have no affiliation with them apart from some domains registered there)

You can check availability of the domain on their domains page,

and decide whether you want it to be a .co.uk or .me.uk or .org.uk which cost £2.34 (inc vat) per year
or something else, perhaps .com or .net or .org currently on offer at £4.99 + vat

That takes care of the domain, now to decide on using emails with it.

Another option, which costs an extra £0.81/month (inc vat) is to also sign up for mailboxes on their Mailboxes page

This comes with 5 mailboxes, each email address will have its own password and can be easily set up in Outlook (Express) or whatever.
    Also the use of Webmail.
This option also allows access to the 1&1 authenticated smtp server for sending mail.
Particularly useful if you log into different ISPs
Using this option also makes you completely free of your ISP and their smtp server.
It's the easiest, best option, but does cost a bit extra.

If you want to try it without the mailboxes, then it can be a little more tricky (if you want to appear to be sending/receiving from that domain name email address)

The free option is to use email forwarding.
It is possible to set up various email *aliases* and to forward them to various email accounts

(from the control panel when you login to 1&1) (forward to email accounts such as your ISP's, or Yahoo, or Gmail. Gmail is particularly useful because it is possible to set a pop account in Outlook (Express) or whatever)

But it is also possible, even using email forwarding, to send and receive mail as if it is coming from that domain name address.
That requires a separate pop3 account to be set up in Outlook (Express)

If this is what you want, then i would perhaps have to give further details how to set that up

But i think you probably have enough info to decide if this is for you,

    Regards

Taken willfully without authorization from another person is not necessarily theft, you have to prove dishonesty which in this case I believe is almost impossible.

That is not my opinion but the definition of theft. Unfortunately people cannot make up their own definition of the offence which you are clearly trying to do.
