    I'd spotted that, it's a maths thing.

    £4.25+17.5%vat=£4.99375 rounds down to £4.99

    2x£4.25=£8.50

    £8.50+17.5%vat=£9.9875 rounds up to £9.98

    STOP PRESS

    Thanks Hotchpotch

Earlier on sent email concerning excess payments to refunds@biscit.net, have just received responder email with attatched Refund Request Form, this to be completed and posted back.

Could things be getting better? Doubt it.

Needles to say when you attempt to set up a DD, the link on their site doesn`t work.

spud17 - Yup, you keep your existing number and pay your line rental to BT.

I checked with Virgin's online "Remote Assistance" and was told that:
    • 0800 numbers are still free through Virgin.
    • prefixing 1280 will route you through BT for that call only.
    • when asked whether I can still use 1899, he said he wasn't familiar with 1899 but thought it should be ok. As he couldn't confirm it, he suggested that I check with 1899.

Went to the 1899 website and found this in FAQ's:
    1899 wrote:
Question - My calls are automatically routed through another provider, but I pay line rental to BT. Can I still use 1899?
Answer - To have all your calls automatically routed through another provider is also known as Carrier Pre-Select (CPS). You will still be able to use 1899 as usual and this will not affect your CPS subscription. Just sign up and dial 1899 followed by the telephone number to make cheaper calls! Your CPS provider will not charge you for dialling the 1899 code, therefore the 1899 code will not appear on your CPS bill and any calls made using the 1899 code will only be invoiced by 1899.

NB - the above apparently does not apply to Talk Talk, NTL or Telewest (you can still access 1899, but in a different way).

I seem to remember not long ago on another MSE thread that all the above was true. If anyone knows differently, please let me know!

Any calls outside Virgins free eves/weekends have a 6p connection charge and then per minute so I won't be using them for that!

    Hope this has helped. ;)

Oh I see, thanks for that. Then I suppose we must just hope Biscit remember to pass on the extra 1p VAT to the ever-deserving authorities.

The link to set up a DD with this gang is now working in the members area.

Just tried the DD link ,you'll never guess ,it's not working.

I wanted to get DD set up because that was part of the problem with inability to reclaim over payments .

To recap ,I initially joined up paying with Debit card but it went belly up before I'd set up DD ,and they kept taking switch payments.

Thanks for the info, I already use Primus as my CPS and 18185 for mobiles.I havn't bothered with 1899 because I'm not here daytimes, and to have BT line rental ,Primus (CPS),18185 and 1899 would just get too complicated.
So I would have to say goodbye to Primus, who seem very efficient and good on customer support the couple of times I've spoken to them.
I see on the HotchPotch post there is now an email address specifically for cancellations so you don't need to visit the members area.

I've just printed off my Refund Request Form, filled it in, with evidence from bank statements and will send it off tomorrow.

Think I'll see if I can get a cancellation form as well, rather than wait for the one they are allegedly posting me!

    Cheers for now

I tried several times yesterday and eventually got the DD set up about 5-30pm.
All I can suggest is you keep trying because it worked for me in the end.
I also printed off the DD agreement with my details and Biscits.

There is also an option to "pay now" but that means giving them a debit or credit number which I would NOT advise.
You know only too well that they can take extra payments and there`s absolutely nothing you can do about it.
At least with a DD you can get your money back from your bank.

Keep trying the link is all I can advise.
    They are a right shambles.

Just to say for anyone thinking of cancelling your account with Biscit, the snail mail system did work. As an ex-Fast4 dial up customer I wrote to Biscit (18-24 High St, Edgware address) via snail mail on 18 Jan. I received their cancellation form on 24 Jan, in which it stated that I had to give them 30 days' notice. I replied by snail mail the same day and copied the FAQ from their website:
    "V21 FAQ's - Dial-Up Packages (0808 access)

Am I tied into a specific length of contract?
Our dialup services are provided on a month by month contract basis. Cancellation can be made with immediate effect through your secured members area or by contacting our customer services dept on 0870 442 9600 (option-4). "

I finally received their reply yesterday confirming that my "dial up account has been closed and no further payments will be taken."
Sure enough I can no longer log in to the Members' Console, much to my relief. My last payment was late Nov, and like others, I also received the Bill for £9.99 a few days ago...though I had already cancelled the DD promptly ;-)

It is a breath of fresh air to be now on broadband without the connection problems, and I am pleased with the level of service from Primus...maybe a bit more expensive than others but after the saga with V21/Biscit it is great peace of mind to be able to contact the company on an 0800 number.

    Best of luck to all.
