I had 2 x multi room that weren't plugged into the phone line, Sky wrote to warn us and then billed us. We then fitted phone lines to the boxes but they wouldn't acknowledge it?

When we had HD fitted I asked the engineer to check the other boxes which he did and even using his equipment he couldn't get them to acknowledge the phone line. He then rang Sky to let them know that they were all in my house and Sky credited the money back to us.

Just a warning but they do check.

It sends the signal via the dish.

Yes, yes and yes, but see above posts.

Is it a new box? as I have heard that Sky have started to install GPS tracking chips in the new HD boxes. If they are removed from their original place of installation they send a signal to Sky who then send a signal to the box which switches itself off.

That is why there is no need for a phone connection now.

    Got a link for that?

The phone connection requirement has not been removed though has it?

Absolute cobblers - GPS will very rarely work indoors for a start.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Its absoloutley true, my mates cousins brother opened a sky magic eye and there was a webcam in it, clearly spying on who was watching.

lol!! Thanks for all your replies. Its an old sky+ box, suppose it wont do any harm for a couple of months until a better tv deal comes out! :-) worst case = I have to pay a couple of months at full price!!
  • I have been charged £40 per box (4 boxes) for them not being connected to a phone line. this has been going on since august last year (9 months) the boxes were connected but when an engineer came out he said there was a fault in the loop and proceeded to fix it. as we were not aware of the fault and it wasn't really our fault i asked sky for a refund as we have 6 children 4 of which are mentally disabled. all they said was that they sent out warning letters and that they would not refund us. sky send out so much junk in the post we just chuck it all in the bin. and as the sky was working we assumed there was no real problem, also when we had it installed the guy said it wasn't important and that after a year they could be unplugged from the phone line. the charges have amounted to well over £1000 . we have cancelled our subscription with them and are now moving over to virgin, but sky still has the cheek to say we owe them a £40 bill. We are seriously considering taking them to court, any suggestions on a decent law firm (we live in Bedford) with a no win no fee . any other suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

I dont see how you can take them to court though? I dont see what you would "win" out of it, apart from having the £40 charge dropped.

Send them a letter informing them of your disagreement, they have a complaints process for a reason.

I am quite a new sky customer, never once has either of my 2 boxes in the house been connected to a phone line, you can order sky multiroom on their website without taking the option of a bt phone line, so this is complete rubbish, you could easily get away with moving the box to another house. Not once have they mentioned to me about needing the multiroom box to a phone line, hence why we never had it installed, the room the box is in doesnt even have a socket any where near it.

You should recieve a letter sayin you need to connect your sky box to a broadband line. When you dont do this you will recieve a few more and then they will charge you for two full subscriptions. Happened to my old man, as soon as they realised they couldnt recieve a signal they sent the letters out. He got dead angry that they had cottoned on to what he was doing (sky+ box was in france) so he cancelled. Now where stuck with virgin which is beyond belief poor (appologies to those who use it and like it, just find it does nothing as good as sky).

If you could get away with this problem long term i would expect that sky would only have one subscriber with 20 million multi rooms. Will not last long
