Daily thread, what do you think?

Tootles - The thing is if you do that, technically your posting of your new flat isn't an OS subject and it will get moved to DT. If you still post it in the daily thread all of us can see it and read it as we all want to know your news. Please think again. :kisses3:Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0

Thats what I feel. It does make me wonder if some people don't like the fact that the thread is a bit less exclusive than it was because more people are joining in? I do hope this isn't the case.0 -
Tootles it's lovely to see you back but I agree with Aussielass, we don't want to go chasing around MSE to find out what you're doingOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Beachbeth I agree, it's lovely to see all the new people and help others along the OS path. The more the merrier, spread the OS message I sayOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

It was twink that first introduced me to os and now i am on every day as it is nice to see what everyone is doing as i feel motivated when i read how well everyone else is doing.:j
I am a stay at home mum and have been feeling down a lot recently as i dont go out much/have friends so it is nice speaking with fellow os'ers.
Without os i would never have got a slowcooker/breadmaker and my family would be missing all the great recipes i get from this site.
I see no problem with the daily thread, yes it is long but everyone has something to say and it is a great help to everyone.

You would really be better posting in the House Buying Renting board where you will hopefully get an informed answer to your problems which don't seem to be about downsizing but about the amount of rent etc you are paying.
It can be pretty frustrating when questions are asked on the Daily thread about matters that are covered in other boards as the correct answers can be found very quickly or there is always someone helpful in the correct boards who will post the answer.0 -

I'm hardly the most OS person in the world but the folks on here are far more "my kind of people" than most of the people I spend all day with in the office. If it wasn't for you lot, I'd only ever talk to electrical engineers (my colleagues) and classical music nuts (my friends). Since joining OS a year and a half ago, I've gone from being a lazy convenience junkie to being a... well, slightly less lazy person who cooks and eats decent foodI still haven't managed to train myself to be tidy or to enjoy housework other than cooking, but am hoping for a new leaf/clean slate etc. with the new flat...
I've made some great friends on here and I'm so pleased with the number of newbies that have turned up in the last couple of months. It would be really counterproductive to restrict the daily thread to hardcore oldstyling only, and would break up what's become a very pleasant little communityOperation Get in Shape

Hmm...
I'm not a board guide any more, I'm still on an extended sabbatical leave but I can certainly tell you how things looked from the moderators point of view all that time ago.
New threads that were chatty and were not fairly directly about money saving were meant to be moved to either The Arms or Discussion Time. This was clearly stated in the site rules and FAQ of the time. We used to let most go if they could reasonably be deemed to be more suitable for OS than anywhere else since we knew that if they were moved they just died out on the spot. But this was a pure judgement call rather than a black and white IS or ISN'T kind of thing. That made it rather difficult to be seen as consistent by everybody when dealing with the grey areas because everybody's view of these can be different.
Unfortunately what happened was that more and more purely chatty threads were started and the line between pure chat, and helpful but indirect OS got ever more blurred. And a whole lot more posts got moved.
After much discussion behind the scenes, not to mention a certain amount of outright rebellion among some of the more vociferous and chatty members we piloted the Old Style Cafe as a place to talk. New pure chat threads were merged into it as and when we mods spotted them - but it made it somewhat disjointed since the date and time stamps on the posts meant that things often got rather tangled up.
In the end, when the daily threads were started we still had no actual mandate to allow purely chatty threads from the MSE team, but we knew full well that a more relaxed and chatty style was the way that OS worked at its best. And still does. We also accepted that merging chatty threads wasn't going to work, so again we were back to allowing the chattier kinds of threads if they showed a reasonable element of indirect money saving old style help and moving only those that looked to us to be purely chat. Again that was still a judgement call - one that today's mods do a good job of.
As your mods are doing at the moment, we talked a great deal behind the scenes and eventually got the Daily Thread was accepted as a part of Old Style.
It's purpose was to try and keep the "chatting over the fence with the neighbours" feel of Old style and to provide a place for the chattier based posts and so reduce the number of pure chat threads that really had grown quite a lot.
The complaints then were that too many threads were chatty and it was hard to pick the wood from the trees.
Now it seems to be the same sort of complaint about picking the wood from the trees among the posts in the daily thread.
So anyway, that's the history of things (as seen by me) and I do not envy your current board guides the job of trying to please everyone here.
I don't think there is a way to please everyone. Enough chat for one person can be too much for another. It's a subjective thing.
On a purely personal note - it's been my experience that a vociferous minority can all too often out shout the silent majority. It would be sad to see that happen here.

No I would not and seeing this post has made my mind up, no way will I continue to post on this board or any other, to say its offensive is the least. I was not asking questions in that respect but venting my frustration about a situation to which I do not see an answer. I will ask pink winged to remove my post re the flat.
