I can see where people are coming from saying they are not going to post on OS again. After the reception I got from trying to help people with my meal planners I have cut down a lot of my posting on here.
May I just say, this thread is pertaining to the Daily Thread not to OS per se? The thread you are referring to was about different issues entirely. Unless I'm mistaken and your thread came under fire for being too chatty?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I love posting on MSE. As well as posting on the OS boards I share myself around.
BUT the difference with posting on the daily thread is that I have made *friends* and feel priviliged to read about your days. We can't all be OS everyday but on those days I"m not feeling inspired and motivated ( which is often
) when I read of others achievements it keeps me on the straight and narrow. I now have a folder, thanks Moggins, make jam, thanks Thriftlady, do flylady, thanks Snowy,
etc etc. I also have a black kitchen bench just like PP.
All talked about on the daily thread.
I have thought the daily thread had grown very big of late, although I wasn't one of the three who made a complaint.I had struggled with it due to the time difference and sometimes feel bad for not commenting at times with people's news and mixing people up.
For those that have taken offence and said there not posting. Please reconsider. It won't be the same without you. :ADon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
sammyy wrote:I would hate to think that because I'm not self sufficient or keep chickens or do any of the truly OS stuff that I would not be welcome there if I wished to contribute. Most people on there seem to be average people with families trying to do the best they can with what they have, bringing up children the best they can.Surely if the input from others makes that a little easier its got to be for the good?
:T I think this is the point of the OS Daily Thread - to encourage, give ideas and see if the way other people do things is better than how we are doing them. Also to inspire and buck each other up when we feel less than adequate. No one is a perfect Old Styler and some people are more Old Style than others, but we do our best.0 -
Good morning all
I am also one of those people who has never posted on OS but avidly read the threads every day. The Daily thread is has a wonderful community feel to it. As others have said, this is not something it is easy to find in our "real" lives. Because the people who post on here are so friendly and helpful it is inevitable that chatting will occur as they are interested in and care about other people. There is also such a wealth of invaluable information that comes out naturally from the chat about daily menus etc.
I have been truly inspired to go back to OS ways and have saved so much money from doing so. Surely if the thread is achieving this it has achieved it's MSE purpose.

I have read quite a bit of this thread. Although I have never posted on the daily thread before, I very often read (or skim) through it. Like everyone I have a choice as to whether I read it or not and how much I read.
I am all for it regardless of length. I really like it.
It is friendly, it is Old-Style in that as someone said it's the neighbourly chat over the fence. The advantage is, that you can go whenever you like!
Surely only 3 complaints is a mere blip???
Please keep it.0 -
susiesaver was posting at the same time as I was - she has hit the nail on the head! Wish I had said it so eloquently!0

Hi All
I'm a relative newcomer here, but have found that I spend most of my time here browsing the OS forum.
I love the fact that there are individual threads for specific queries and discussions, and that there is one, more general, thread for the day itself. One of the reasons this board is so esy to use is that the other, specific threads, tend to stick to topic becausethere is a specific daily thread to discuss the other stuff.
I really like the way the daily thread has evolved. OS stuff can be tough sometimes, and it's really important to have a support network of people that share the joys that OS brings. Not all my real life network gets what it's all about, and if I told them the joy of Flyladying, or the feeling of achievement at having done this or that, or managing to preserve 70lb of apples in various forms in three days, they would think I was off my head. This thread gives so much encouragement and support, and I love the "over the fence" approach.
I know there is another part of the board (The Arms) for chitchat, but I don't go over there. Why would I want to scroll through all those threads when the people I want to read about, and maybe chat with, are all over here? I don't want to go down the pub and chat with everyone else, I want to chat in the corner shop or over the fence.
I agree that long off topic threads are difficult to navigate, BUT one of the reasons I like the way this board is organised is that there is a thread for each day. This (imho) really keeps the volume manageable.
I don't really understand why people are complaining. Surely if they don't like the daily thread they could just not read it? It isn't compulsory after all.0 -
Think you may have just succeeded in advertising the daily thread - not a bad thing IMO but it may just get a bit longer!!

I have slept, or rather not slept on this thread, I started posting on this site because as someone who had to be OS through neccessity all my life I felt that I had something to pass on to people............
The daily thread has been an inspiration to so many people, although it does get a bit out of hand at times with people posting early and long posts, I try to keep mine short.......but like most people who chat, I sometimes go overboard.....however I did feel yesterday very much that we were being criticized for posting anything other than OS hints and tips. Some of us are very isolated and the daily thread is a means of communiction with like minded others. here are days when I see no one other than my OH, even though we live on the outskirts of a large city, my shyness makes it difficult for me to communicate with any one I do not know........people who do know me see me as an outgoing person, they do not realise what it costs me to appear like this.
I have decided that unless I have something pertinant to say, I will not post on the daily thread again, but will start a new thread with what I have to say.
See new thread re our flat move......................
