 Crikey, I hope not!!! That would be counterproductive to the whole ethos of the site, which is to encourage moneysaving!
The only people who would know if that was *their* motivation behind their complaints are the one's who made them. Until and unless they make their complaints public, we shall never know for certain.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Would it be feasible to have a section in the Moneysaving Old Style Forum called "Over the Fence" with a thread posted daily???0

I am not exaggerating when I say that the OS Daily thread has been solely responsible for changing the way I cope with my day to day existence. For various reasons I had been having difficulty knowing where to start to get my house in order and after having the MSE site recommended to me and then discovering the OS thread, I lurked and found that the daily thread was a distillation of the group's experience and my own lack of experience. I found, as the days went by, that I became enthused and felt that perhaps I could tackle what needed doing. Having begun to post my goals for that day, I found that I then had somebody to answer to if I didn't achieve them. I also discovered that there were people in worse situations than me and to whom I could offer some support .. after which the daily thread became a give and take situation and I found myself caught up in the current of its ebb and flow.
When life suddenly became intense and I didn't feel able to commit the time to the computer, the OS thread was one of the things I missed the most and as soon as I was able, I came back to a lovely welcome.
This is just one person's experience with it - but it is indicative of how very important it can become and what a great job it does, quietly and in a completely unstructured way.
Personally, I feel that because we're all adult and capable of taking on group difficulties and devising solutions thereto, there doesn't really NEED to be any changes made to the daily thread. The changes need to be made in our responsibility towards it. If we all bear in mind the fact that it can get very long and endeavour to keep our postings both relevant and succinct - with allowances for emergencies, trauma and venting - then, like ivy, it can be left to ramble along.
Hmmn ... relevant and succinct. I'd better stop now, then. :rotfl::hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:Weight loss since 2 March 10 : 13lbs0 -
this thread has fascinated me. I agree with squeaky above that you can't please everyone, all the time. However, although i enjoy the posts on old style, and the threads are without a doubt quite useful in the main, I avoid the daily threads, as they all seem to be very exclusive, and i don't feel welcome, plus i don't really feel there is anything in there that is "os". However, for the people who use it and enjoy it, it would be a shame to lose it for them, like has been mentioned for some they are a lifeline, providing chat when maybe we don't get out and see people, but maybe something needs to be changed to make others feel more welcome, not sure how, but on the odd occasion i've posted on it in the past, i've felt like i've walked in on a private conversation, you know like when everyone stops talking. i hope you can find some sort of compromise to please everyone, for those who love the daily thread, i'd hate to see it go, i'd just like to feel more welcome, and maybe others would too, or maybe its just me.
best of luck,

Gosh, I don't really know what to add to this, apart from my own experiences.
I suffer from dreadful depression, and sometimes have found it difficult to go on with life. I discovered MSE and then OS, and although during bad times I haven't always posted, I have drawn huge strenth from the discussions, especially the daily thread.
For me it really has been the difference between coping with life and not.
Whilst that may seem odd to some, I know others here will understand what I mean. I know that with the inspiration and support from the 'friends' on here, I can get on and see some real achievements at the end of the day.
I would hate to see this thread collapse, and moreover, the Members who have given me such a boot to get on, leave, or just not post anymore.
Please let's keep the daily thread.
Thank you to all those involved in this decision, I know it's a difficult job.

Mmmmm...3 people have complained, and how many have posted to say how much they love the daily thread ? I don't think we've anything to worry about:D
It is true it can get long, I mostly skim it, sometimes I post, sometimes I don't, but I have a look at it every day.I like to know I'm not aloneI can't see it changing

It can be pretty frustrating when questions are asked on the Daily thread about matters that are covered in other boards as the correct answers can be found very quickly or there is always someone helpful in the correct boards who will post the answer.
Maybe so - however does it really matter? Let people post where they feel comfortable...
I just think it makes the forum really *exclusive* and *cliquey* if there start being too many rules and regulations and it will actively discourage new or unconfident posters...
It really pees me off when I'm told off for doing something on MSE - I'm an adult and I come here voluntarily - and I'm an active and, I hope, useful member of the community. If I ask something that's already been asked - so what? I've not been around as long and often just glance in and out when I have time.
I find this attitude really frustrating.

I wasn't going to post - but following Sqeaky's remark about the silent majority...
I love the daily thread - yes it can be long, but as others have said it is always friendly here on OS - not like one or two of the other boards I lurk on, where there can be a sense sometimes of "well it's ok for you"
You have all inspired me to keep the house tidy, to clean, to keep on top of everything - I would far rather be cooking... If we just read the tips, I would feel that everyuone else was superwoman or man compared with me - but the daily thread puts everything in perspective - how we're all trying to be OS wharever our circumstances.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

I havent posted on these boards for several weeks - but i have and probably always will read a few times daily. Perhaps that means i have no right to voice an opinion on this subject but i am going to just put my tuppence-ha'penny in anyway.
I loved the daily thread, as many people have stated above, it felt like a good old chinwag over the fence. I did feel that at times the personalised responses to everyone - the long list of names and personal comments - could get a bit tiresome but I chose to just skip over them.
However, at the same time as finding it potentially the friendliest of threads - i found that it was actually the coldest and most unwelcoming. Its natural for like minded people to flock together and i think its impossible to avoid cliques forming as thats human nature - but to people who were not a part of that group, it could feel very cold in the daily thread.
however, i would be sorry to see it go or to change in anyway.0
