  • I dont read or post on the daily thread because I dont have time & its not really my sort of thing. I still think it is useful though to give OSer a chance to chat with like minded people. It also means the other threads dont get too chatty. I do like the threads personalised by peoples experiences but when they start getting too chatty i havnt really got enough time to get through them. I am exactly the same in real life, easily sidetracked & way too chatty.

OS is a lovely & welcoming place & I hope it remains so.

    What, censorship now???

I don't think it's censorship gingin - but there has to come a point where you walk away from something if you are not happy, or are not gaining any benefit from it. There are many, many places on MSE I don't go to for a number of reasons but I don't think I'm being excluded or losing my right to have a say if I want to - it's my choice not to post or lurk there.

I'm really struggling to comprehend what people have complained about re the Daily Thread - yes it's big, yes some days it rambles on, yes it can become a bit tiresome when you feel like you have to acknowledge the 260 people that have posted before you but that's what the thread has developed into. If it is to be reigned in now then so be it but nobody is being forced to post there - or forced not to for that matter.
  • ................ I avoid the daily threads, as they all seem to be very exclusive, and i don't feel welcome, plus i don't really feel there is anything in there that is "os". .............. not sure how, but on the odd occasion i've posted on it in the past, i've felt like i've walked in on a private conversation, you know like when everyone stops talking.

Hi W on a S! I'm sorry that you feel like that. I'm very much a newbie here, but have always felt welcomed. Take a look at the thread over the last few weeks, and whenever someone posts for the first time on the daily thread, there's always someone, often several people, who welcomes them.

There's loads that's OS on the daily thread, too. I for one have seen posts on hens, baking, slow cookers, pasta makers, bread makers, veg growing, muffins, pastry, childcare, knitting, I could go on for pages, but have OSing to do myself.

Brokenwings, hello again! I've missed you (another early riser) and even posted a week or so ago asking if anyone had seen you.

I love the daily thread - I read some and of course skip some and like to hear and get tips about what you are doing on a daily basis - its so interesting and I am sorry to hear of Tootles not wanting to post anymore - I loved her posts and seeing what she is doing with her flat - it is old style and downsizing is good for old style.
I do think the minority who dont like it should not bother with it then and leave the rest of us alone - I dont post much but I love to read them - please dont stop.

WIshing on a star - its exclusive if you dont join in the same way the rest do. They are very welcoming to newbies

If the problem is about not finding relevant bits then I vaguely remember when Squeaky was boardguide we would get asked to post those things again on a relevant thread. Quite often recipes get posted on the Daily Thread and these would get lost if they stayed there. Maybe this is a point we should remember, that if something posted is useful to one then it may be useful to all and post recipes, tips etc in a relevant thread for easy retrieval later?

Perhaps the ones that complained should post somewhere else and not read the daily thread?

But that *would* make it exclusive then, wouldn't it!

I've been very interested to read the comments from those who have had the integrity to post *their* experience of OS and the courage to go against the grain today and express their different point of view. It's enlightening because I wasn't aware of the negative impact of the daily thread.

WOAS - you certainly are entitled to say! And I, for one, am pleased that you have voiced your opinion. I've been feeling awful about this thread and particularly the manner a few have taken it very personally. But, to be very honest, hearing your views and those of brokenwings and a few others has actually made me feel that, this thread is indeed worth it! How else would we have known otherwise?;) Thank you.

  • thank you queenie for making me feel my opinion is valued and to everyone else who has made me feel welcome, i've felt more welcomed on here than anywhere else!!!!
i'm not a big chatty person, but i've always wanted to post more but felt unwelcome, like an odd one out, but now i'm going to give it a bit more of a try and see how i get on,

Queenie I haven't taken it personally hun, I think there are some relevant points made but I also think that 3 people complaining is not exactly the majority being upset by the post.

I also think BS has a point although it could have been phrased differently that people do not have to post and read it, I don't go anywhere near the loans or mortgage section but when I need them I might I certainly wouldn't go asking OS where to get the best mortgage :D

As for not being welcoming, do you remember those poems we made up to welcome the newbies when we had a sudden inflow :D that didn't come out quite right but it was easier than giving a separate welcome to everyone. I'd have had RSI if I'd attempted that, we suddenly had so many in so short a time.

  • I have my tin helmet on so shoot if you want to - I don't post on the thread but I can understand why it's so popular, the reasons mentioned before all valid and are why it should be kept as it is but Ruby Pudding has voiced what others have hinted at
yes it's big, yes some days it rambles on, yes it can become a bit tiresome when you feel like you have to acknowledge the 260 people that have posted before you but that's what the thread has developed into.

I used to read most of it on most days but this acknowledging every prior post out of some sense of politeness has got way out of hand and the long list of names and comments is unneccesary and very excluding if a person gets missed out.
If I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from
