  • I don't think that Black saturn was making that point to anyone who has posted on this thread today. I would think she was refering to the minority, who have complained by Pm to the board guides.:D

I really have enjoyed this thread and I too have felt as though people have ignored me:p but I would never take it personally.
But I too, do the same.
I could never in my, tongueincornerofmouthtwofingers typing style, acknowledge everyone who has posted before me. I would be here all day and no OS would go on at all:rotfl:

But would hate to think that I had caused anyone any offence, or not made anyone feel welcome. I love this board, and feel that if ever I need someone to vent on, or to share my joy, or excitement or misery, I can come here.

    LONG MAY IT CONTINUE:j

As for not being welcoming, do you remember those poems we made up to welcome the newbies when we had a sudden inflow :D that didn't come out quite right but it was easier than giving a separate welcome to everyone. I'd have had RSI if I'd attempted that, we suddenly had so many in so short a time.

    ;) I do :D

moggins re: the 3 complaints. Firstly, 3 is the minority, but their points are as valid and significant as anyone else's. (Remember being told once that the most powerful people are ... the minority! Vegetarians and non-smokers were the minority once ;) ) I have no idea who "The 3" were, nor do I need to particularly, but this thread when read fully does highlight others who have, not complained, but not found it to be the place many regulars perceive it to be. In that regard alone, whosoever those anonymous complainers were, have given another perspective. It may not be one many regulars share and I can't speak for anyone else, but to *me* that has made me think and that is always a good thing, a sort of dusting off the cobwebs from the brain cells and we all need that or we risk becoming insular.

Just wanted to say that the first thing I do once I have got my girls off to school is to read the daily thread. To know what other people are upto gives me the motivation I need to get going.

I don't think it's censorship gingin - but there has to come a point where you walk away from something if you are not happy, or are not gaining any benefit from it. There are many, many places on MSE I don't go to for a number of reasons but I don't think I'm being excluded or losing my right to have a say if I want to - it's my choice not to post or lurk there.

I'm really struggling to comprehend what people have complained about re the Daily Thread - yes it's big, yes some days it rambles on, yes it can become a bit tiresome when you feel like you have to acknowledge the 260 people that have posted before you but that's what the thread has developed into. If it is to be reigned in now then so be it but nobody is being forced to post there - or forced not to for that matter.

Black Saturn's post is a prime example of why I don't feel welcome on the daily thread and why I won't post on there, I feel pathetic saying I feel intimidated posting on there, but I do. I am not a particularly confident person even hiding behind a computer screen but attitudes like that make me even more convinced not to! Anyway I am going off on a tangent from Queenie's original post about the content of the thread.

I used to read most of it on most days but this acknowledging every prior post out of some sense of politeness has got way out of hand and the long list of names and comments is unneccesary and very excluding if a person gets missed out.

I'll take responsibility for that :o I hold my hands up and admit that, when it first began, if someone mentioned something significant or out of the ordinary, or I was catching up the day after, I wanted to include a comment in my post. I wanted them to know that their words were read, we were interested.

Now the thread has grown, yes, I can see where you're coming from and it's a valid point. Thank you.

I think sometimes people can be quite blunt in the manner they express themselves on screen - please remember that nuances like facial expression or tone aren't there so people's intentions may be misinterpreted.

I sometimes find comments curt or harsh but try and remember the above. However, I often get it wrong. I'm a user of lots of !!! xxx and ??? and expect everyone to have the same kind of friendly tone as I hope I do.

Well I'm very glad you posted on this thread because your views have been very valid and I bet they'd be just as valid on the Daily Thread too - go on, nip over and say hello......:D

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Very interesting thread this.

So sorry and sad that some people have felt excluded on the daily thread, (((big hugs))) I am sure it wasn't intentional.

There are days when I have felt ignored but that is just the pace of the thread and maybe what I posted wasn't relevant to others. On other occasions however I have been bowled over by the help and support I have received on here e.g when dd was mugged, when my cats died, or with help with slow cooker or breadmaker so I have found help with personal and ol style mse probs.

I too find it easier to take on board the ideas in such a chatty style. If I am having a difficult day and not achieving very much then often a quick visit to the daily thread will remind me to pop on the slowcooker or breadmaker or to pop out and pick some sloes or blackberries and make something to cheer up my larder in those winter months. I then get a real sense of achievement and all these things help to save the pennies and improve our quality of life.

I can't manage to read all of the thread in one go though (have cfs) so do it in bite size portions, it has become a treat to go and have a read with a cuppa between the ol style cooking and cleaning. Please don't change it and please come back Tootles, I love your posts specially about your quilt making (would love to try that someday and am already collecting fat quarters).

Keeping my fingers crossed ( idshfdf fdfet fjdfj it doesn't help my typing skills any!)

well don't cos you are not alone. intimidated is quite a good word. i feel that i don't know enough to be fluent in old style talk (i thought bm was short for quite something else for quite a while, and dont ask about wm) and everyone seems to know each other, and although i am going to give it a try (i've typed 2 messages for the thread in last 20 minutes, and deleted all the text cos everything i put seems niave, or silly), its really hard. it reminds me of my first day at high school, i only went to a little out of town primary school, when i went to high school i was the only one from my school, and knew no one, and it was hard to break the ice i suppose. i'm not a huge old styler, i don't bake bread every day, or a lot of other things, so if i'm having a day when i'm not doing much in an old style sense, just working and being a mum, i feel like a fraud (and sometimes a failure reading what you all manage to get done some days) in even attempting to post, cos i feel inadequate too. i'm sorry if this is rambling on, i'm trying to make a point about how hard it can be to just jump in to what can appear to be a fairly closed group if like me and gingin your not very confident and out going, even behind the computer screen. however, i will persevre and i hope maybe gingin will too,

They are all valid points. I will hereby (and probably get shot down in flames for this) state what was currently annoying me about the Daily Thread.

It was getting very silly re the times it was being started. We all know there are people here with problems sleeping like Snowy and I had no problems with Snowy starting it at 5am because she couldn't sleep but when people posted it who hadn't even been to bed yet then it just became an extension of yesterdays thread and not a new one. Please, please can you only start the Daily Thread when you have actually been to bed and gotten up to start the new day? Aussielass you may have a problem here, if so I apologise profusely :D
