3 people who have complained
perhaps the 3 people should express their feelings to everyone on the daily thread about this ..
What may have begun as 3 people, does appear to have grown when all the posts in this one are read. So, it's no longer just 3 people who have raised any issues with the daily and as I said earlier, everyone's views are equally valid.
This did begin as the daily thread agebut because it's primarily discussing the issues surrounding the daily thread rather than being the usual format of the daily, so the title was rightly altered to reflect that.
Another thought just occured to me too; because we don't know who the original 3 complaints were from ... who's to say they *haven't* posted on here expressing their feelings?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hold my hands up and admit that, when it first began, if someone mentioned something significant or out of the ordinary, or I was catching up the day after, I wanted to include a comment in my post. I wanted them to know that their words were read, we were interested.
Now the thread has grown, yes, I can see where you're coming from and it's a valid point. Thank you.
Minor point, but this just shows that we can't please everyone.
Some feel left out if they're not mentioned; others feel that there's too much mentioning.
I'll hold my hands up as a "mentioner". I too read all the threads, but don't post every day. I like to mention people from time to time, to keep in touch. Won't be doing it any more, just the people who've made a useful OS point. Hope no-one will be offended by this, but I'd hate the thread to go to DT, as it will then lose it's true value for me.
Can someone please let me know what the general gist of the "complaint/comment/observation" was? Queenie, I've been back and re-read your OP several times, and I'm still in the dark.Is this me being dim??
EDIT - thanks, Moggins! Point taken and acted upon.

moggins, I've been guilty a couple of times of starting or replying to the daily thread in the early hours before bed!! I think that did arise because I knew by midday (or later!) when I'd next be able to get on, the thread would be so huge, it was too daunting!! All those people to acknowledge, all the events to remember, not wishing to offend anyone by omission!!
Obviously the answer is to not worry about it! Perhaps we have to all agree that nobody will feel slighted by not seeing their name in print in every post that follows!:rotfl: I'm not putting this very well, but I know what I mean!!
Not been on all weekend, only came on for 10 minutes, hours ago, and first thing I read was this!! My brain hurts!
Just want to say I love reading everybody elses posts, imagining your days and hopefully being able to offer a bit of support from time to time. I also hope that not being a shiny beacon of OS counter-balances those of you that can "knit a yoghurt" (can't remember who said it, but it gave me a laugh!!! Thanks). Newcomers must feel a lot safer with the odd incompetent on the thread!! But I do draw inspiration and have today used my slow cooker for the very first time!! Well overnight if I'm being accurate and it's gorgeous, had to taste test in the interest of the family!!You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
pounds_and_pensive wrote:Also, it reminds me a bit of when somebody on Walton's Mountain says 'goodnight' to each family member in turn, then the next one will start, 'G'night Mary-Ellen-Bob!' I've often imagined that they're still saying goodnight to each other at breakfast time, and there are only so many hours in an OS day0

But would more have raised issues if the three peeps not said anything
You are not going to please everyone at the end of the day and if they don't like what they see don't look. simple0 -
Brainfog now and really not sure what to do so will back away from the computer and go do something ol style after a rest.
I will leave posting on daily for a few days until it all becomes clearer what can and can't be sent
I guess if I have a problem and need to query it I can pm someone? Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

I'm begining to think that this has all got sorted out now -
As I understand it the 3 complaints (I think that it was probably more a comment than an actual complaint) were about the length of the thread? I think I'm right there....
So if that's the case
- the posts don't automatically include a comment about all the previous posts, this is not to say that posters should mention something in particular as things crop up, it's just the mentioning everyone and everything that's got out of hand
and
the thread is started after bedtime not before
is that it? is the problem solved? :jIf I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from0 -
It sounds very much like we have finally unearthed the reasons why maybe a few people have complained about the Daily Thread then - these being:
a) The pressure to acknowledge all those who have posted before
b) the start time of the thread
Is that right? Valid reasons I must say and I think pretty easy to sort out with a few very basic ground rules, no? When Queenie first posted I was a bit taken aback because it sounded like an attack on the very nature of the thread (I know, I know, should have read it properly......) but now that a good cross section of posters have had their say it seems to me that the majority of us are in favour of keeping the thread but with a few minor adjustments to make it feel a bit more inclusive and something to dip in and out of when time allows. I for one would hate to see it go, I must admit.0 -

Pink-Winged wrote:Just to put you all in the picture, I have had three pm’s this weekend from Old Stylers who expressed the fact that they were unhappy with how the daily thread has become too long and too full of chat.
I asked Queenie for her thoughts and opinions on how the daily thread has evolved as she was the originator of the thread and I know it means a great deal to her. I believe that this is the reason this thread has come about.
Anyway, I tend to agree that the thread is getting very long every day, but try as I might I have been unable to think of a sensible solution. It is not for me to decide what the content of the thread should be either. That is for the MSE team to decide.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
