We love skiing! This year we went to Serre Chevalier for New Year and Easter was spent at Val Thorens. 'Twas fabulous. Serre Chevalier was with Equity as it's all inclusive with exception of lunch.

This year, we're thinking of going back to Val Thorens for New Year.

Anyway - Good Luck and hope you find a fabulous holiday for less. It's always nice to go away.

Maybe if he really wants to go and earns a lot more, he could pay for half your trip.
He should understand that you cant afford it, sounds bit unreasonable to me, but if not can he help you?
Is a sufferer of SAD, so don't blame me, blame the depressing English weather!!!

...The problem is that I would be quite happy booking through most places, he however almost 'demands' to book through Thomson Ski.. :o

They aren't necessarily best value or best operators in the winter holiday scene.....

....How about him paying the difference for you if he really wants to go that week? ....

My OH does this, I earn 30% of the household income, so we each pay a proportion.

Also, you will be away over New Year, that's why it's so costly - and LOTS and LOTS of kids will be on the slopes!

We don't live together, a few months ago I wanted to, but he didn't.. and now, I don't want to ! I find him too selfish sometimes and too overbearing with his ideas. I'm quite happy in my own space. He lives at home still.

He is def being funny with me by text now, saying it's me that's being funny :( he's so transparent though it's quite amusing.

I agree, I don't actually think I should be going on holiday at all this year. I have more important things to be thinking of and doing and that is why he is being funny I think.

Hmm, didn't even think of the kids on the slope. That'll make the £1000 even more a waste of money.

He might offer to pay towards it, not sure... not even sure if I want him to pay towards it to be fair, as when he does it always get brought up in arguments and I just don't want that hold over me.

Move on, there will be plenty of available men at uni and there will be lots of cheap studenty things you can do together without anyone feeling selfish.

I do think he's being a tad selfish - he wants to go in the week that suits him, so that he can go to football matches with the rest of his holidays, with the tour operator that he likes, and it doesn't matter if they're expensive because he can afford it. I'd expect my OH to use his holiday entitlement from work first and foremost for our holidays together and if has any left over for other things then fine, but not the other way around.

If he really won't budge on the date and tour operator, you should state your case and hopefully he'll offer to subsidise you, after all it's not like you're refusing to go altogether. £1600 IS a good chunk of savings but it can be easily frittered away on things like this.

He'll soon come out of his sulk!

    I know texting is the spawn of the devil, but;

Me: "so you've not starting being funny since I said about the holiday"

Him: "shut up, not everything is about you"

    :o:cry:

    Bit harsh really.

Funny you should say about men and uni, I think that is his problem, he can't stand to be second best.

I'm 27 btw and he is 33. So I'm not an 18yr old student p1ss head, but I do want to have a laugh and join a few clubs when I'm there.

Also, I have my own privately rented flat and bills to pay, so that £1600 is needed really, especially if I can't find a part time job straight away, or the student finance payments are delayed like I heard they were last year.

The more you say the less nice he sounds! Have you been together long? You don't sound very happy :(
