Both parents should be aware that unmarried fathers do not automatically acquire parental responsibility for the child, although they always share financial responsibility for the child with the mother, and are normally entitled to contact with the child(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

At that point, as long as the father was on the birth certificate, they had equal responsibility.
Pre that year, you are correct.0 -
my first son was born when i was 16 and although i'd been with his dad from the age of 12 once i had my son it didn't work out, i have been with my partner since my son was 1 and he is dad, we haven't had another child and have decided to wait til after we are married because thats the way it should be i believe. x0

The law changed in the early 2000's (2002 i think).

do you know as a young mum when i had my son, my health vistor midwife and headteacher all told me not to put the father on the birth certificate because it would give him legal rights, so i never did and so he has no rights to our son, which works out fine with me because he has seen him about 10 times in the 5 and half years of his life, so doesn't deserve the right.0 -
We're getting married before starting a family
I think for me it's just because I want us to have the same name. I have a big issue with my family at the moment and so am desperate to change my name to my partners, as his family have been far far more of a family.
Oh and we wouldn't be able to get married in Australia and have a 4 week honeymoon if we had a young child, lol.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
