One of the advantages of the A&L account is that you could make cash withdrawals over the counter at a Post Office, whereas Santander do not offer that service (except for the basic account).
Does anyone know, once transferred, if that facility still exists?

Yes it does still exist:) - unfortunately only for ex A&L customers. It hasn't been extended to all Santander customers:(

Mine seems to have transferred over today (or sometime over the last few days as haven't checked)
One issue I have is on the Direct Debits it now has Alliance and Leicester listed as one - I do not have any other payments I make to them - does anyone know what this is or has anyone else had any random additions to their DD?

Thanks for that. Would not really expect them to extend to existing Santander customers, not yet anyway!

This may be to service your linked savings account. Check the DD acct number against the savings acct number. It happened to me, too- for 2 savings accounts. But when I transferred my DDs to my new account with another bank, they did not appear with the rest of my switched DDs.

My transactions from the weekend have now cleared and it's showing the correct balance. Fingers crossed that my salary goes in tomorrow and my DDs are paid. I had two DDs for AL which I deleted. I'm slightly concerned that they told me I could quote either the old or new sort code on any future DDs I set up - surely migrating everything to the new one would reduce margin for error. I also don't like the reference number instead of the name on faster payments.

Still considering changing accounts - any feedback on Halifax's Reward account?

Sounds a horrendous experience :(, if on telephone banking (0800 056 6066 - save on the 0844 money grabbing numbers) it lets you in, choose to speak to an advisor there and they are usually less lax about security questions because you have already identified on the auto system, if not and it won't let you in over the phone, hang up, redial and just enter your customer ID which will then transfer you to security very quickly (don't try pin again else it will lock your account). Security then might be able to put you through.
Sorry if it seems a bit long, but try doing it through the freephone number :) - they always answer relatively quickly when I've needed to ring them (maybe 'cos there paying!).

I am currently hanging on for an answer on the 0800 number. I tried earlier today and waited 20 minutes but got no answer and as I have a life, I had to hang up and make a meal. I'm up to 8 minutes and counting and had been determined to try to speak to someone to see if they can look into the problem instead of giving me the stock answers. I was due a paper statement on the 21st but that hasn't arrived in the post yet. 14 minutes now! I will be switching my account that's for sure. :D

What a palava this all is.

Are many people having problems with their direct debits, with the new sort codes? The DD for my santander zero credit card is screwed (ironic given that they're now the same banking entity - super coordination there), they charged me £12 for their own failures (only refunded when I pointed out something might be wrong), and told me I'd have to pay the latest bill online.

Only santander online banking has been down for weeks now (due to "ongoing technical issues"), so I was told I'd have to go in a branch. Punishment at its most glorious.

Anyway, I've fired off a complaints letter listing everything that has gone wrong in the last 8 months of my being a customer. Let's see what sort of response they can muster.

Well my Vanquis DD went absolutely fine. OH's mortgage and water bill DD's also went fine yesterday :) theres been a few resurrected DD's on OH's account and a strange addition to my payees that turns out to be my mum (I have her listed as a payee as I send money to her each month) but other wise all looks ok. Dont like the new internet banking format though... too much information
