Acting as if all buyers are thieves is just counterproductive and I would be making a mental note not to buy from you if you were posting here with your official eBay account. It's not that I think you would try and diddle me deliberately, I just can't take a chance on it, you know...

Not all buyers are 100% genuine, I send my items recorded to protect myself not accuse buyers of being thieves.

Don't know why you would make a 'mental note not to buy' from me seeing as you have no idea what my ebay account is nor do you have any idea what I sell and at what prices. It would be like me saying I would never buy from you which is a bit of a bloody childish and irrelevant thing to say.

For the same reason that you say not all buyers are genuine.

I tend not to buy from people who give me lectures about my own honesty. Just like you choose to assume things about me, don't be surprised when I therefore assume things about you.

Sounds like you are accusing all sellers who use recorded delivery are calling their buyers thieves which is not the case.

Giving my opinion is not giving a lecture.

    .

You are contradicting yourself a bit. Spending 74p per item even on a small amount, say 20 items a month will cost you £14.80, are you honestly saying that is worth it and you expect to lose £14.80 per every 20 items you send? If those are the sort of statistics you get then you need to seriously look at your business model. I have 5 losses so far this year and none at all from last.

If not, then recorded is of no value at all.

I do tend to avoid sellers using recorded but only because they have to charge 74p more for thier items to cover it and i prefer to buy from sellers who are cheaper.

If virtually all buyers are genuine what do you need to protect yourself against?

Not all buyers are genuine, that's a fact.

I send items recorded delivery to protect myself, from possibly the 1 in 100 or whatever it is that may claim they did not receive an item they did.

I'm not convinced that it is 'one in a million who will try it on', I think it will be higher than that.

You, yourself had 5 'losses' this year, can you say for certain they were all genuinely loss by Royal Mail?

I don't sell anywhere near as many items as you, and I'm guessing your items are fairly low in value? It makes sense for you to not send recorded because you are operating a profit motivated business selling hundreds of items a month.

The last item I sold was a £40 MP3 player.
  • Not all buyers are genuine. Thankfully most are.

    You say
'protect myself, from possibly the 1 in 100'

So you will send 100 items at an additional 74p, to cover the one that is not genuine. £74 to cover the £41 max value of the 'lost one'. Madness.

If you sent 100 £40 items unrecorded, I'd call that madness.

    Works both ways.

We should just be thankful that we do have competitors happy to price themselves out of buyers.

I in a 100, honestly? I;d give up selling if your figures look like that, I really would. I'd have to lose a package about every 3 weeks for those sort of stats.

I've sent 1120 packages at a rough count this year so far, 5 didn't get there. One to Italy so yes i blame the postal services. One to a regular buyer that I do not for one moment believe is scamming me, 2 on Amazon, both small amounts and both very apologetic and again no reason to doubt, and one to a super high feedback ebay buyer. 4 out of the 5 were under £20 , the one to a regular was a bit over £20.
