ebay help pleeeeease? buying saying they havent recieved item

well i sold some jeans on ebay not too long ago, and have since had loads of e-mails from the buyer saying they havent recieved them, i sent them royal mail 2nd class-as stated i would, i posted them 3 days after the auction ended, again as stated i would, and now almost 2weeks later they are saying they havent recieved them.

now i would like to point out that the jeans went for alot more than i expected, and the prcie including postage and packing came to £22. they are saying if i they dont recieve them by today could i speak to royal mail....what am i supposed to do? i havent sent them recorded delivery, and i posted them with all my other 15 parcels at the time, where do i stand, if she persists that she hasnt recieved them (i must point out that im not implying she hasnt recieved them, but i have no proof that she has either) will i have to foot the bill and refund her item? all i got was a reciept for the individual price of each parcel posted, which i very much doubt will stand alone in proving that i sent them...............help?!:(

For paypal purposes you need proof of delivery. You'll have to refund them and use your proof of posting to claim from royal mail for your loss. I'm afraid Mail does go missing.

  • As a regular ebay seller, i find this happens alot.

So now i state in my auctions that i always provide proof of posting, which you ask for when you post the items through the post office.

Also i state that i accept no responsibility for items lost in the post if postal insurance is not purchased, but i will forward on a copy of the proof of posting to the buyer is the item is not recieved.

if you got proof of posting, you should be able to fill in a lost item form and get a photocopy of the proof,

if you didnt, then im afraid the buyer will be able to go through ebay and get a refund as this happened to me a few times. whats annoying is ebay/paypal dont seem to listen to the sellers and give refunds out all over the place.

from now on only offer items with recorded or special delivery if its a higher prices item.
that way its tracked and you can check online to see when it was signed for.

That is totally pointless. As a seller you are responsible for getting the items to the buyer. If you can't prove delivery you will lose any ebay/paypal claim. All putting that statement in your listings does is show you don't understand the rules It's almost like putting a sign on yourself saying Please Scam Me

If your items are getting lost a lot there is obviously something wrong. In my last 1000 items I have had one claim for loss.

There is no point stating this in your auctions as you are responsible for items lost in the post, not the buyer. If the buyer doesn't receive an item you have to refund them and then it's up to you to use the proof of posting to claim your money back.

Always state at the PO you want proof of posting. It sounds like they have just given you the normal receipt which if they have means you wont be able to claim off RM.

If you use Ebay you have to stick by their rules, one of which being it is the seller's responsibility to get the item delivered.

If you post a CoP and a claim form when buyers have not received their orders you are asking for NPS claims and negs. As you say, Paypal will refund if you cannot prove delivery and your scheme is trying to take advantage of naive buyers.

Your Ebay career is unlikely to last long operating like this.
  • thanks for your comment,
I have had a lot of scammers say they havent received the item posted but luckily sent by recorded delivery.
the only times i have had things go missing in the post is around christmas time so i have learnt from mistakes and send everything out recorded or special delivery.

im not the only one that puts that on my listings, and i always provide proof of posting and have only ever had one thing refunded through a ebay/paypal claim

i dont think that thats a very fair comment, it all depends on the type of buyer you get, and the honesty of that person, if you think about it it would be easy to just say ''oh i havent recieved the item'' if you see that the seller isnt offering recorded delivery-but thats just not the right thing to do!

Not always bob. A receipt can act as proof of posting. Royal Mail again making it difficult. Just needs perserverance.
