I guess you could get it down to 3p a minute (+5p connection charge) by using a service like 18185.

I really suggest you dont use giffgaff.

Couple of things to note which is not clear calls to 0870 and 0845 numbers are a hefty 20p a minute and not inclusive of any goodybags. There payment systems and activation systems are hit and miss and have constant gliches or what they call gremlins. Also picture messages are not inclusive at 16p min each. I if was you read the small print first before joining at these points. Also they dont have data roaming full stop abroad.

Just read very closley there terms and conditions and prices. Not everything is good to be true.

Not really sure what you are getting at here? Please show me a mobile network that DOES include 0870/0845 numbers (and also where it says on the giffgaff website that they're included) - that would add credibility to your argument.
As for MMS messages - It doesn't say anywhere that these are included either.
If you don't like them or want to use them - that's fine...but don't start spreading mis-information.
giffgaff (in my opinion) have one of the best offerings going at the moment.
You're not tied to a lengthy contract, so you're free to leave at the end of a month if you're not satisfied.
Their unlimited data is truly unlimited - no useless FUP's, and free calls to 0800 numbers. Now show me one of the big operators that give you all of that, and I might change my opinion.

How strange on your previous post you were extolling their virtues.Eg

"I would go on giffgaff too. Free internet, free on net calls, calls cross 8p texts 4p, free 0800 0500 calls. "
  • asda mobile and tesco lite charge 8p a minute for calls and 4p for texts. they charge 8p a minute to 0870/0845 calls. giffgaff charges 20p nearly three times more expensive to call these numbers. so if you call these numbers a lot dont use giffgaff is all i am saying.

asda mobile new all inclusive calls and texts add on is cheaper by five pounds than giffgaff and on a more stable network on vodaphone in my opinon.

lycamobile charges 1p now to landlines without any add on packages.

vectone mobile have free internet too and cheap call rates and free vectone to vectone calls.

everyone but giffgaff has a call centre who you can get an answer from if you are in trouble with something giffgaff you have to wait 24/48 hours or longer to get a resolution.

i have my views on this network which are my own views but before signing up i would look at giffgaff mobile forum first and make your own decision from it constant tech and gremlin issues as they call them.

yes i was naive to go to this network without reading everything about them. some networks suit some people others not. all i suggest anyone looking to join is think how they use there mobile phones giffgaff has one advantage with internet access being cheap but comparing texts and minutes there are cheaper packages around if you do a search.

also they dont do five pound top ups like a lot of other networks who do.

also if o2 is capping its own customer base on internet access how long will it before they instruct there sister customer giffgaff to cap theses too.

finally i wonder how many on here are trying to flog there sims saying its cool etc to get there free five quid for each sim they sell. mmmm i wonder.
  • Just to add my input on this. I'm a brand new Giffgaff customer and have only been with them a few days, so any of the problems I mention here could well be down to teething trouble.

Calls are fine - no problem at all there, although some way of checking how many minutes I've used would be good.

Texting is generally ok, however I've noticed a problem I haven't seen for years - what I call 'delayed texts' whereby someone sends me a text and it arrives several hours later. Anyone else had this?

Internet is, to put it politely, slow. My screen is set to a one minute timeout, and frequently turns itself off before a webpage has loaded. I've also (and to be fair, I have no idea as yet whether this is down to Giffgaff) got a big problem with the android app market in that I can't download anything from there. My phone says it's downloading, but that's all. I've got one app on there that's been 'downloading' for three days now :p

However, at the end of the day, I'm only paying £10 for this and it's not on any sort of contract. I'm only using this service until a new phone comes out that I like the look of, at which point I'll go back to being on contract with one of the big providers (apart from Vodafone of course!), so I guess I'd say I'm at least reasonably happy with Giffgaff.

These are more the problems with the underlying network - O2

I have problems sending and receiving texts from O2 phones on a semi-regular basis, it could be my imagination but their pre-pay phones seem to worse. Giff Gaff is fine if your happy with O2 as a network and very limited standard support.

I personally prefer Vodafone as a network and have tried all networks including many virtuals but always try to to use either Vodafone or a virtual attached to it like Asda.

o2 contract has always been fine for me, it was Vodafone PAYG that used to have massive problems for me.

Would be interested to hear more about people's experience regarding delayed texts. I'm due to port to giffgaff soon, delayed texts would be a major issue.

I've had no issues with texts at all.

I have an old Nokia 6120 Classic which has 3g and the connection is fine.

When you log onto Giffgaff you can see how many minutes you have left on the right of the screen.
  • Have to say have been impressed with giffgaff, calls are as clear as anyones, txts have been sent straight away, mobile internet is as fast as T-Mobile Im using, free 0800 calls are a great idea as I can use 18185 to call international at very cheap rates - cyprus for 1p landlines and 5p mobiles for instance. Free calls bewteen giffgaff phones are also a useful feature.
Im well happy - and you can get £5 for referrals :j
