Well, I've six months left on my 3GS contract (Dec 2010), and don't feel paying the £20/month is value to buy out. Does anyone know what the lowest contract is that I can put my 3GS on?
Personally, I am looking forward to the iOS4, the iPhone 4 isn't that much of a big deal for me. Also, I do stick with the "I signed it, I'll honour it" ... but am just wondering how long before O2 start altering the existing contracts to put a limit on the downloads. I guess this would be a major change to the contract that would allow lots of people to end it early, hence why they have waited for the new shiny toy to arrive.0 -
Hi all, first post. O2 have annoyed me sufficiently to make me sign up! I've been an O2 PAYG customer for 6 years and finally made the decision to upgrade to the Iphone on contract - simply because I want a phone which can handle lots of web surfing. I did my research and decided I would stick with O2, mainly due to loyalty and there unlimited data option!
Now they've announced the scrapping of the unlimited data plans.. I'm seriously considering changing to another provider. My O2 broadband contract is also now due for renewal.. so unless I am offered a fair deal then I will be moving on to pastures new!0 -
Hi elyobelyob
Here's your options:
1. Buy the iPhone 4 on PAYG and get a micro sim for your existing contract. Then sell your 3GS
2. Update your existing 3GS to iOS4 on 21/6 and just upgrade to iPhone 4 in December.
3. Pay £100 to upgrade now to iPhone 4 and sell your 3GS (putting you on a new 18 month contract)
As for when your download limit will change, that will be the renewal date of your contract or October 2010, whichever is the later date.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

So has Vodafone and I suspect the others will follow suit soon.
Best plan at the moment on o2 seems to be to go to an iPhone simplicity contract for 12 months whilst you can and buy the phone on PAYT0 -

Hi Marc and welcome to the forum.
From what I understand, your download limit is not due to change until either the end of your existing contract or October 2010, whichever is the LATER of the 2 dates. Only contracts taken out from 24th June onwards will have the clause in them to say "you will be limited to blah blah blah from October 2010".
That means if you are an existing 3GS customer, you are fine until the end of your contract. If you go for the iPhone 4, you will get unlimited data to October 2010 then 500Mb.
Hope this helps. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
I'd love to be able to buy the Iphone 4 outright and a simplicity contract now but just can't afford the initial cost outlay.
This means that I will be stuck in a contact that gives me only 500mb a month after October (as you point out, Oscar). - and October really isn't far away!
How about for those of use who are able to pre-order the phone and tariff (supposedly from Tue 15th) - does this mean we could escape the new limits?? Or will the contract be binding only from the day you receive the phone?0 -

Contract will start on the 24th (i.e will be bound to those new terms)
Only way to avoid is by doing as the guys suggest, simplicity now and PAYG on 24th. Remember the best advantage of doing that is you are never locked into more than a 12 month contract and so every year you can sell the latest iPhone just before they announce the next one and you'll find you have to pay naff all to jump up a model! It beats any offer the networks could give you for loyalty (which are pants these days anyway)Hardcore moneysaver0 -
Just sold my PAYG Iphone 3GS and am waiting to buy the Iphone 4. Can i buy the simplicity 12 month SIM with unlimited data now and then put it in my new Iphone when I get it?0

Yes of course you can and you've done the perfect thing so
p.s You will need a micro-sim for iPhone 4 which O2 can provide then they'll just do a sim swap.
p.p.s Don't foget to get your simplicity via Quidco to get an extra few quid in ya pocket http://www.quidco.com/o2Hardcore moneysaver0
