Got my new iphone4 on friday and love it!

One problem though.......I cannot connect it to any wi-fi networks that require a password.

I'm sure you've tried this already but ... do the networks have access control? If so, you will have to add you phone and enter the MAC code, just as you would if you were adding another laptop.

I am another happy iphone 4 owner. This is my first iphone and I have found it very easy to set up and use. No problems with signal or screen issues.

As for the difference between wi-fi and data - if you connect to a homewi-fi network, you can do what you like without eating into your data allowance. Once you sort your connection, you'll see the wireless icon when at home because that's how your phone will connect when in range. Out of range, the phone will look for another connection and you'll see the wireless icon replaced by E or 3G - anything you do online will eat into your monthly data allowance.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got this wrong but it's how I understand it.
  • I haven`t had a problem at all. You just need to put in the network password making sure you use upper and lower case as indicated. It will also save it so you don`t have to keep doing it when you go from house to house!

    I second this

Make sure you are using the right case for entering the password

Mine has been fine and as stated earlier once its entered correctly the phone remembers the password for you each time you connect.

    Thats correct

    The E is for EDGE
    or you have 3G
    or O for GPRS

Thank you soooo much for your help guys.

I'm ashamed to say I think I have been putting the password in lower case when it is clearly printed on the modem in upper case. I am blonde.....forgive me....

Anyway, I am in work now so will try it again when I get home.

There is only my laptop connected to my network so if I need to add my phone I will be back here asking you guys how I do that too....:rotfl:

Thanks again, sometimes it takes someone else to point out the bl00dy obvious!

Finally received my iphone 4 today. Haven't had a chance to play around with it yet but my God does it look beautiful.

Tried replicating the death grip and unfortunately I can confirm my handset has the problem. I'm on Three and have the latest iOS update.

If I cover the bottom left side of the phone, my signal goes from 3 bars and 3G to 'No service'. Incredible.

    Hi sqa,

Have a look for a cheap bumper until you can get a real one from Apple. Here's a quick link (clicky) to one I found on eBay. It's not the cheapest, but it does give you the screen protectors too and they say they are UK based so shipping should be quick.

Note: I'm not linked in any way to the people on eBay - it was just the first bumper that came up on my search.

Availablity is patchy but they are out there. Where I live - south Hants - for instance, city centre stores tend not to have them but ones on the outskirts do (Shirley in Southampton and Southsea in Portsmouth, for example).
