If i was selling an item of that value on ebay i would insist on payment by bank transfer or cash on collection.Paypal fees are too high anyway for £800+.

Okay so what happens when the buyer opens up a dispute with Paypal claiming that the package you sent them contained an empty box?

Paypal protects you against chargebacks, and insurance protects you against damage in transit, but in this case you would have to refund the buyer, get a block on the IMEI and take up the "empty box" with Apple or maybe the police if it turns out the phone had been used...

IF that were the case ? There would be NO Ebay. I understand peoples concerns...and YES it is a cruel world out there at times. But I have just spoken to paypal and I am fully covered(got them to send an email confirming) As for empty box etc...paypal said they would side with me and the buyer would have to prove there was nothing in it.

Not the case. Paypal usually side with buyer.
Easy to get scammed as a seller- speaking from experience.
    Less risk for buyers nowadays

  • Hi Vicki

The iPhone uses quite a bit of data, so you need to make sure you look at contracts including internet browsing. Limits range from 500Mb to 1Gb usually.

The second thing to look at is which company advertises the best coverage. You need to make sure you will have your internet access at home, work, your mum's house, etc. In other words - the places you spend most of your time.

The third thing is to make sure is that you have enough texts and minutes (obviously!).

Once you've done that, you can then start looking at price and any extras. I quite like the O2 simplicity tariff; they seem to be the only ones that offer the BT Openzone WiFi, which is quite useful - if you do a quick search, you'll probably find 2 or 3 houses close to you that have BT Openzone and this can not only be faster than using 3G, but saves your data limits too!!

I would look at Tesco Mobile if I were you. They use O2's network, and a tariff that would suit iPhone starts at £15 per month. It's a month rolling contract so no tie in, gives you 500 minutes and unlimited text and data. £20 gives you 750 minutes and unlimited text and data and £30 gives you unlimited everything.

    As others have said.

Paypal nearly always side with the buyer.

i sold a used nokia last year. Excellent condition and in perfect working order. And boxed.

The buyer had the phone for nearly the 45 days allowed by paypal before they can do a charge back.

I was then sent a dispute says item not as described. Paypal immediately held the funds in my account. When buyer returned phone there was items missing box in bits, phone scratched to hell.

Buyer got FULL refund including postage.

I appealed against it and Paypal awarded me 1/4 of the sales price back.

This only just covered the Paypal fees, Ebay Fees, Postage etc... As not of these were refunded as it was out of there "window" to claim them back.

So i decided i will never be selling phones on ebay again.

I sold my iPhone 3GS privately and got £250 cash. And was very happy with that.

The BT Openworld Wifi points in peoples houses are not included free wifi provided by O2.

As for some stupid reason they are given the same name as the BT Openworld access point in public places.

The best way you can tell if when searching for a network you get a BTFON and BT Openworld point it is a house wifi point and you will not be able to access it.

BT Openzone is free to use for:

BT Broadband customers who participate in the Openzone scheme (which is free, but uses some of your bandwidth)
O2 Customers who have the WiFi bolt on to their phones,
O2 Customers with an iPhone contract.

You should be able to just connect to the BT Openzone WiFi and the first time you do, it will ask you for your mobile number. That's it; you should then be connected.
