Isn't logging onto the broadband of a private residence without permission broadband theft? Or is this something entirely different that's being discussed here?If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

BT Openzone is a completely different thing.
If you get a BT Home Hub, it transmits 3 signals:
1. Your broadband
2. A signal called "BT Fon"
3. A signal called "BT Openzone"
Essentially, signals 2 and 3 are a small part of your bandwidth that has been hived off for use elsewhere. They can be switched off, but it takes some doing so most people just leave it on.
If you are an O2 customer or have the BT Home Hub with the Openzone activated, you can log on to any Openzone WiFi signal for free anywhere in the UK. Non BT and O2 customers can buy access on a day/week/month basis. The BT Openzone signal is not connected in any way to the home network of the person who has the Home Hub, so you are not breaking the law or risking a virus from an "open" network.
Hope this helps.
Edit: BT Fon is the same a Openzone, but worldwide and not open to O2 customers. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

Thanks for explaining that, I wasn't aware that such a system existed. When you say "Home Hub" does that apply to anyone who has BT wireless broadband or is the Home Hub a specific device? I'm with Virgin so all this is a bit foreign to me.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Hi I did post on here a couple of weeks ago about my O2 contract. Its finally due for upgrade today (I have a blackberry pearl which I hate with a passion). o2 will not budge at all and will not do any 'deals' on the iPhone 4 - which is what I want. Today they have said £35 on 24 month contract with 600mins and unlimited texts and internet browsing going down to 500MB in Oct. Oh and I have to pay £119 for the phone. Ive managed to sell my Ipod Touch so with that money will only have a little bit to pay towards the phone itself. Is this a total rip off?
I'm just really nervous as I have lived with this awful Blackberry Pearl for 18 months and have hated it so don't want to pick something I end up hating again. With the Pearl I just thought it would take a while to get used to but by the time I realised I hated it with a passion it was too late to send it back!
Any help would be really appreciated, I know it must be a little frustrating when regular posters on here have to put up with people like me just popping on with silly questions! I need help tho :-)0 -

Have look at what deals are available elsewhere. When you have a good idea as to the prices go back to O2. Don't bother with the upgrade people, choose the option that puts you through to "if you are thinking of leaving O2" i.e. the Retentions department. If they won't match what you can get elsewhere then you have a choice of leaving them (you'll need to give notice) or accepting the best deal they are willing to offer.
One final thing... Just because you don't like the price you've been offered doesn't make it a "rip-off". O2 are using the basic principle of supply and demand. You may not want to pay the price that they are selling at but there are plenty who are more than willing to stump up the cash and that is why there is such a shortage of the device. I wish you luck in negotiating a better deal, though. If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Thank you its really helpful to have other peoples views. At the mo I am leaning towards the 3gs as this wont cost be anything to upgrade and everyone I know who has one is really, really happy with theirs. Thanks again0 -

Yeah they do much better deals on the 3GS. I got a 16GB 3gs 300 mins unlimited sms 500 data free o2 to o2 calls for £25 a month 24months, and the handset was free.
They sent me a white one, and i wanted a black, so just waiting for them to swap it over.0 -
can anyone give me any advice on sim only contracts for an iphone4 i think i am going to buy it direct from apple so i dont get tied into a long contract but not sure which network would be best for sim only package thanks in advance
Hi,Give GiffGaff a go as they piggyback the O2 network is also great value for money without being tied into a contract.:)0 -
Looking at potentially going with the Tesco 12month contract at £20pm and the iphone4 costing £349. Have a few questions though, have existing Tesco customers been offered the same early upgrade as O2 customers from 3GS to the Iphone 4 (ie pay off remaining months of current contract, pay x amount for new handset and renew contract for a further 12 months)? Or have they had to wait until the 12month contract is over to upgrade to Iphone4?
Just trying to decide what best to do, other option is 18month contract with o2, and hope they offer similar deal when/if a new Iphone comes out next year.0 -
...paypal said they would side with me and the buyer would have to prove there was nothing in it.
Hypothetically speaking, if you were sent a shrink wrapped box having bought it from ebay, and you opened it and it was empty - how exactly would you "prove" the box was empty to paypal? I'm guessing you would call them and tell them the box is here in front of you, and it was empty...
Collection & cash in person would be the only way to sell for me... and even so with the popularity of the phone depending where you live you probably would get some interest...
