Here's a question. The case program page says: "To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010."
The question is, what is going to be different after September 30th? Will they be including cases as standard with the phone (like the Wii remote), or is there a possibility that they'll be changing the production of the phone in an attempt to reduce the problem?
Any thoughts?0 -

Good question !! I think they will drop free cases and claim that anyone who buys one from then on should no the problem exists.
My issue is if the bumper doesnt fix the problem by the time u get it yr out of 30 days.
I called orange to see what the score was and they say i am outa my 7 days. So they are exempt from the sale of goods act??? Or so they say.
Despite paying for a 32gb on contract direct to them they say phone this free phone apple number they will sort out getting the phone back. Then they tell me the used airtime cost and the initial upfront money is down to apple to sort and they dont know what apple will do !!!
On hold with apple 26 mins and gave up as my dinner had got cold!
I thought it was all ok till today when I made a load of calls that dropped despite good signal now i am worried!0 -

And before anyone asks, I'm not connected to the seller in any way; I just stopped winging about something that I'm being given for free but needs to be manufactured (3m iPhones - that's a lot of cases/bumpers) and decided to do something sensible. Perhaps you could all do the same.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Have thought a bit more about the limited time on the free case program, and have come to the conclusion that I can't believe that they would give cases to some (by doing so admitting there is an issue), but then stopping because people should be aware of it by September. I can't imagine that would go down well with people who want to buy a phone after then. I'm hoping it means they're going to put a case in the box, otherwise I might have to put off buying one for another few months to see what happens.0

Apple have said they will review the situation in September. They may have modified the device by then.0

Applying a lacquer to the metal band would solve the issue; you'd still have the antenna on show, but the lacquer would prevent your finger from touching the actual metal and bridging the gap. I wouldn't be surprised if you see them doing something like that by September. They already do invisible shields for the iPhone 4 antenna, front and back (clicky) for those that don't want to shove a case on their phone, but they're still quite pricy. In the beginning, the universe was created. I think they will do something like that too surely they cant just carry on selling as it is without the offer of a free bumper from Sept 30th.Better price on those shields here http://www.scratchwraps.com/collections/frontpage/products/iphone-4-scratchwrap0

They have missed a trick here... maybe it's just me but looking at the side pieces they have 2 separate bits by the problem area, rather than 1 strip bridging the gap to stop contact.0 -

No - it's fine. The problem is caused for some people when you put your finger over the 2 sections and actually touch the metal on both sides. Having 2 separate bits just means you can get a better coverage of the metal without having to go over the black plastic "gap" which is indented. In the beginning, the universe was created.
