In case anyone is having problems returning a faulty handset this might be of help:

    http://www.claimsfinancial.co.uk/consumer-news/iphone-4-signal-fault-leaves-apple-facing-legal-battle-1003003.aspx

In the UK, customers have also been rushing to stores to pick up the new phone either as first time converts or as dedicated upgraders. Has Apple let us down? It has a reputation for attention to detail and Steve Jobs is famous for being a perfectionist, so it is a shame to see their flagship product fail on what should be its most basic function - making phone calls.

    Apple and the Law

The Sale Goods and Services 1979 provides that goods sold must be of 'satisfactory quality'. This means of a standard that a 'reasonable' person would expect.

Is it reasonable for the iPhone to cut out mid conversation when you are not in a remote Welsh valley but at Piccadilly Circus? No way! If this defect exists then you have statutory remedies.

    1. Providing you complain to the seller within 6 months it's not for you to prove there is a defect but for the seller to prove there isn't!

    2. You have an automatic right to reject the iPhone if there is a defect. This includes even minor defects. It is not OK for the seller to tell you it is satisfactory 98% of the time...Any defect gives right to rejection.

    3. Apart from having a right to reject, you can also request a repair or replacement phone - whichever is least inconvenient to you and most proportionate to the seller.

If the seller does not comply with the above then you can issue a claim in the County Court for a full refund plus interest at 8%.

Regardless of whether the manufacturer or retailer is an world-renowned tech giant or an independent shop on the street, we do not have to stand for products that are not fit for purpose and we are entitled to exercise our consumer rights to ensure we get a fair deal every time.

However the display on the iphone is very good, however it will soon be standared

Not sure about that. Maybe in the near future, but I have a feeling AMOLED might be the way forward with further development (if super AMOLED is half as good, due to good colour depth.

The above in itself is a somewhat childish response.

As I posted yesterday I know someone who has an issue with the "death grip" so bought a bumper to solve the problem. Should that really be necessary? - no (IMO)

The phone should work as advertised and for some people it does not.

I have also stated before that my OH is hoping to receive the new iphone sometime soon. If it exhibits this fault it will be going back.

I think ampletime's point is that they have had the opportunity to use one, and did so, and their comments are based on that experience.

Lol... A childish response? I'm not going to sit here and just let ample slag off the iphone page after page when no one cares haha. Hardly childish :).

Also, seeing a phone and owning one is VERY differnet.. the use is different.. when you see one, you're looking at its features briefly. When you have one you use it every day.

    There is a BIG difference....

Again with the childish laughter, and if no-one cares why respond?

I do not know how long ampletime had the phone for, it could have been some considerable time.

Many of the reviews written about phones are done so after a very short time so by your logic they are not really of much use.

I think it looks nice, although I actually prefer the roundness of the older design. The screen clarity is excellent.

The potential loss of signal would be a deal breaker for me, had I ever intended to get one, and it would be nice of Apple to admit they have got something wrong, whether that be hardware, software or manufacturing and what their solution will be and a time frame for sorting it.

I agree completely about the reviews.... Have you never had something and loved it that was reviewed badly? Don't be so stupid... Plus there are a LOT of very good reviews...

The loss of signal is definitely no deal breaker. A software fix will improve it and its really a none issue.

Not sure what you are saying here - good reviews are okay bad ones not, and they are all worthless?

The loss of signal is definitely no deal breaker. A software fix will improve it and its really a none issue.

How is being unable to make a call on a mobile phone because of a fault not a problem?

I don't care who makes a phone, if the above was the case it would be useless.

I'm saying, a review is a review... It doesnt determine whether that phone is good for you and whether you will like the phone or not...!

I make calls every day and never had a call drop yet I can replicate the problem if I purposely try... This issue has been blown out of proportion and when the software fix gets released it will be gone...
