iPhone '4' thread

The iPhone display is fantastic - I will agree. They were pushing it a bit to use the same display in 2007, 2008 and 2009 though. I can't think of another smartphone manufacturer who can pull off that trick.

I absolutely cannot understand the class action lawsuits and instead suggest that those concerned should go back and get a full refund instead. Is their any indication of how easy it is to get this refunded, with people been in contract with AT&T etc..?

i glad to hear the iphone 4 is the best iphone to date or that would be another issue
the iphone 4 has probably got the best display but it doesnt say that in that article its says its the overall best of the 4 they tested

I suspect you've hit the nail on the head at the end there, with it not being available sim free in the US most people probably only have a right of return (once used) if faulty when bought on contract. Of course as apple hasn't recognised this as a warranty fault they would refuse return.

I think, but I don't live in the US so I am taking an educated guess.

It will get interesting for sure and I agree that people over here should return the phone if it has a major fault. For many this presents a bit of a dilemma as there are so many good things about the phone that I understand their reluctance to take it back.

Personally, after replicating the problem twice in the Apple store and twice in an O2 store, Reading the technical article on signal strength which is very good (linked on modmyi.com) and travelling so much on trains and knowing this would annoy the hell out of me, I've held off buying until the issue is sorted. But as soon as it is fixed I'll buy one.

Take time to read the whole review lined below, not just the antenna part. It's exceptionally well balanced and duly positive about much of the iphone 4.

It also explains the asymmetric behaviour of 1-5 bars (which means 5 bars can be lower than 50% of the maximum signal strength range) which is very useful to understand and impacts all phones to a greater or lesser degree, and that your signal strength is a moving average, not usually real time. Not many people realise but there is very much a 'very strong five bars' and a 'much much weaker 5 bars' and this is part of the problem and why some people see the problem and some don't.

I hope things get fixed soon as I'll be straight to the shop.

RE: The class action lawsuits ROFL, this is America we are talking about! The lawsuit was filied before the deadline expired for returning it for a full refund So instead of getting all your money back, you file a lawsuit! Only in the good old U S of A

For the record, i'm not an Apple fan boy, I just own an iPhone and this iPhone 4 is the best iPhone to date so i'm loving it!

Are you that stupid? How many times have i said that the iphone 4 is a good phone, it just has many flaws that don't make it that great or as great as people like you want it to be. I am sad to say that there are many people who don't like it and even hardcore fanboys like you need to get to grips with it. As of yet it isn't against the law to not like an Apple product.

So what if someone doesn'tthink its that great. This thread is about the iphone 4, this is a forum where we discuss so discuss we will even if we say things you don't agree with. All i and a few others ahve done is voice what we think to be flaws in a product and put our points across. It is very clear that you get upset when we say something not so good about the iphone.

You also seem to have little knowledge about the iphone or anyother phone. Apple told you its great so that is good enough for you. All i ask from you is to be a little bit more open minded about it.

As for the class actions, it is in America, what more can you say.

Yeh you're right it's not a great phone.. Its an absolutely INCREDIBLE awesome phone!

From a user.. had it since day 1.. hasnt failed me once, works, fast, feature filled.. could not be happier..

Interesting link at the bottom of that story (which by the way doesnt actually say what you think it does), its about the bugs that have been reported with the iphone:

Steve Jobs and the Apple PR team like to maintain a fiction that their gadgets are without peer or flaw. Add to this a consumer and fanboy press that reacts to any Apple product the way my four-year-old daughter reacts to ponies....

The article is asking if it has the best and compares it with other top smartphones. Can't see anywhere that says it is in that article.

True to form you missed the bad links in that post!

However the display on the iphone is very good, however it will soon be standared i would imagine so for now Apple lead the way with it and that is the only different thing about the iphone as phones already have 5mp cameras etc etc.

Didnt you say you were able to reproduce the death grip fault?

As for ampletime not being able to comment on the iphone because he doesnt own one, that seems a rather odd train of thought. Especially when you take into account you were posting in this thread long before the iphone 4 was released?

No i haven't got one. I did however get to use one a little while before you had one. I actually get to use many of the phones that hit the UK market before you do.

You and djrobmac seem to only see the bad things i say about the iphone. I have said some good things about it! The thing is i am open minded about these things and not narrow minded like others.

That said, I am moderately intrigued as to why you are siding with djrobmac. As a compliance officer I'd expect you to have a pretty balanced view but it's pretty obvious to me who is causing all the trouble so wonder why you see it differently. If you don't want to add to the heat in the thread I'd be intrigued to hear your reasoning via PM.

I reported Ampletime's post for breach of forum rules. I'm more than happy for them to carry on their discussion and I'm not taking sides from that point of view; if someone breaks the rules, I'll report them and if they don't know what they've done to break the rules, perhaps they should read the rules again.
