To be honest, in realworld use, I have not had an issue.

Tonight, every time I polled my iPhone to check MSE or other inet sites it's been fine.

I have been unable to replicate the "finger of death" in real usage.

That said, it is a clear issue and I hope Apple sort it pronto.

those solutions above have got it all wrong

there's going to be a software update next week, recalibrating the meter so it doesn't drop off when there's no signal

in addition, there are remarks that the device had frequency errors when trying to switch between channels, which of course would happen when moving from one cell to the next, as well as staying on the same site

The iPhone is stainless steel, not aluminium (if it was then we'd really have problems.)
LOL, no signal ? on a mobile phone...I'd say that REALLY is a problem !

    Trade Descriptions Act anyone ?
If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
    If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:

Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs stoked a whiplash of blogger frenzy when he reportedly responded that users "were holding it the wrong way," blocking the signal with their hands.

Mobile phone, bet the germans are confused as they call mobiles HANDY phones....what a idiot to say that holding your mobile the wrong way is about using you right hand, not the left !

Sure moist/wet environments, dropping 10 foot, using vibrate for other reasons, etc etc are all wrong ways to treat your mobile and VOID the warrenty - but holding your phone with either hand !

Really its not FIT for purpose and falls under the Trade Descriptions Act, at least in most Ex/Commonwealth countries.

We have a problem, if it was aluminium it wouldn't work. Go look at BT telephone lines. Alu is a terrible conductor.

I am not defending Apple but you can't solve the issue by making the band Aluminium.

Edit: I am not an Apple sycophant. I too am suffering from the "death finger" and if Apple don't announce a fix in the next week, my iPhone gets returned to sender.

    It gets worse (or better)

Booked a Genius appointment but I cannot kill my signal anymore.

I can force to EDGE but calls are fine and so is data.

It's awesome if it stays like this but I am a little confused.

A video posted above showed the call dropping not just showing incorrect signal information...
