Yeah look at the imprint it left on his hand when he put the phone down, i'm surprised it didn't shatter into a million pieces, i guess the fact it didn't is down to gorilla glass?........
I think some people are refusing to admit there's a problem as they think it makes them look a bit daft due to the fact they having been championing the release of this phone for weeks.
I'll ignore your implied insult thanks... *sigh* once again, a less than constructive meaningless comment...!
I have been using my iphone ALL day with a smile on my face and not run into the signal problem once... I admit there's a problem and when I try and replicate it, I can... But it doesn't affect me... so don't call me daft.. *tempted to flame back but I'm bigger than that :T*[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

You can replicate a signal drop on most phones (a couple of bars normally) if you cover the antenna but with the iphone 4 the drop is dramatic and does go to zero signal pretty quick.
I know owning my 3gs the reception on that is pretty average but watching my ip4 dropping from 5 bars 2g (cant get 3g here on my iphone, other phone a couple of bars normally) in less than 30secs was pretty shocking and that was only lightly touching the affected side, no tight gripping from me.
I am a big fan of the iphone so aint here like some people who frequent these boards slag everything apple make and do so im not here to do that, just to say im really disappointed with apple promising something better in the reception department (i thought from the keynote speech) and finding its worse from my experience.
I will say all ip4's (until someone uploads 2 ip4,s side by side on utube and proves otherwise) have this fault if you are in a so so signal area.
I personally cant live with it sadly0 -
Some people are saying it does not affect them, even using the "death grip"
Engadget confirmed their review sample doesn't do it (compared yesterday vs a retail phone)
Either they beefed up the review versions (knowing that there was a flaw) or there is a manufacturing issue with certain batches (from reading certain forums Apple CSRs have noted the issue with the coating and overnighted a new phone)
I am inclined to believe a manufacturing flaw at the momentbut we will have to see Apples real response (the don't hold it that way was a stopgap response IMO.)0 -
this is a problem with the iphone. the aluminum around the outside was meant to be coated in a very fine plastic or similar to prevent this from happening. It doesnt require to be held tightly or anything like that. Its because the phone uses the rim as an antenna, bridging the gap on some phones can completely kill the single.
It is completely untrue to say this affects all phones. It will entirely depend on how the phone and antenna is constructed. I have an HTC which is coated in kevlar (or something) so its not possible to create a bridge over any metal elements.0 -
The iPhone is stainless steel, not aluminium (if it was then we'd really have problems.)0

To be fair, I think it depends onhow hard you grip it!
Once again with the "death grip", held casually I have no problems at all. If I grip it with strength (to try and replicate the problem), low and behold the signal drops...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

ok, so if Tesco do actually call me back tomorrow (not holding my breath), am i buying one or not? I am left handed BTW.
What are the legal implications if i do encounter problems? Do i not have any statutory rights - i.e the right to return it if it's not fit for purpose?0 -

They sold me one fine. just walked in and got it.
If people got off their lazy butts and went down to the store they would have had a chance of getting one. It seems some would rather just sit on the phone for hours then moan when a Tesco staff member tells them about a problem they already knew about before ringing. If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -

For those of us who didn't really care to get it on launch day, phoning seemed the best option. Why would I wait in a long queue with extremely limited stock in my local Tesco store when I could pretty much guarantee myself a handset/contract via the phone? Nothing about being lazy, it's just the more efficient option if you're not dying to get your hands on it on launch day.
Tesco has royally messed up, there's no denying that.0
