I'd put missile launchers on the motorway bridges and then blast all the knobs who sit in their cars in the middle land in case a slow moving vehicle creeps up on them
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Would be a very good idea. I've seen it done on some bits of dual-lane autobahn in Germany, seems to work well there.

2 lanes works very well in France, but then again they have better lane discipline.

Actually each time I drive in France I find lane discipline on Autoroutes is getting worse and worse and sometimes it's no different to driving in the UK.

Maybe some folk are quite happy to sit at 55 on the motorway (I know I have days like that), and one advantage to staying behind a lorry is much better fuel economy thanks to the slipstream effect.

The money you save on fuel goes towards repainting your front bumper, wings and bonnet from the stone chips chucked up by the lorry...

Would be funny keep HGV's in lane 1, So that lanes full of them how do you plan to get onto and get off the motorway?

Lane 2 of the motorway where there is a slip road joining could be painted green perhaps which would allow HGV's to use the 2nd lane, but only on the green bit?
  • This thread is great, it's amazing just how many people still believe in Santa Claus, i'm only surprised no ones suggested shifting all freight onto the canals.

Our island is overcrowded, even the most blinkered should be able to see you can't get a quart in a pint pot...the logistics of feeding and supplying such a place dictate massive traffic problems.

Live with and take some stress pills, it will get worse a lot worse.

If I saw a car staying and lane 2, and drove a HGV, I'd do exactly like that lorry driver in the news

really i thought they just run up and down the motorway for fun . :rotfl: But if lorry drivers insist and causing misery to many just to get past a marginal slower HGV , then expect people to want something done about it .

Can I have something done about the fact that it now takes me 1 hour longer to go from Hull to Trafford Park than it did in 1995 and that going from Howden to Oldham reduces by 30 minutes during school holidays?

I never claimed it was perfect :rotfl:

Then again.... If all lorries were accurately restricted to an exact top speed (within say 0.1%), then surely you'd never have the situation of 2 lorries, one doing (for example) 60mph and one doing 60.5mph side by side for miles and miles?

You don't now. If you think they do, you need to get your speedo fixed.
To be honest though, I personally have no issue with it.
I take motorway journey's at a steady pace with the cruise control on, so unlike other drivers who speed up and slow down constantly, I don't tend to find it so stressful :)

    Indeed.
