HGV's in lane 2. Grrrr...

Do you think it'd be a good idea to make HGV's only use lane one on the Motorways during say, 7am-7pm...?

I ask this as it can be quite irritating when you're ambling along in lane 3 @ 70/75 when a HGV pulls from lane one to lane two... The whole of lane two then shoves into lane three causing lane three to drop to about 60mph. This goes on for the next mile and a half while the lorry gets past and gets back into lane one...

Your thoughts/opinions/rants etc...

There'd be a snake of lorries from here to kingdom come if they were only allowed one lane, with my mom in the middle of it. :)
I'd rather ban caravans from daylight hours.

Is that enough? What about old people and women? And you've got the times round the wrong way. it should be 7pm to 7 am and that should be the only time they're allowed on the road. Them and farmers.

Between 7am-7pm they can only use lane 1.
7pm - 7 am they can use lane one and two.
As they are all limited to 56mph i'm not really too bothered about a big snake as it will cut congestion...

Seems to work quite well on the M42.... (bits of it are restricted - no HGVs in lane 2)

Dunno if it was just a trial though, might have changed since last summer.

It's amazing how much congestion they cause when one pulls out to over take the other. Yes they're all professional drivers and without them we wouldnt have food in the shops.

But if they are proff drivers - then they should leave enough distance to the one in front. Therefore not needing to overtake...

Nothing wrong with that. As long as I can scoot past them all in lane 2 ;)

Make them use the hard shoulder. If they went any slower, they'd be stationary anyway :p

I dont have a problem with lorries overtaking as long as they do pull back in once overtaking is done

The M42 uses active traffic management.
They open the hard shoulder so you get 4 lanes available.
4 lanes is the only way to go.
You can hardly blame a trucker for wanting to do what everyone else wants to do,roads like the m6 north of Brum aren't fit for purpose due to the volumes of traffic.
Rather than look at the wrong end of the stick .Don't blame other users ..Blame the lack of decent motorways

    And while we're on....

Shall we ban all the dopey car drivers that sit in lane 1 on a motorway that has roadworks on it, and a speed restriction of 50mph, when they want to do 42mph? If they can't understand the congestion THEY are causing, then ban them as well.

    It's 50 you !!!!!!!!s.
That's my mutt in the picture above.
