The ones I don't understand are the car drivers who sit behind lorries when the motorway is reasonably clear...0

No I don't really think it would be a good idea.I was about to type quite an indignant response (I'm inexlicably grumpy today) on behalf of my husband (who drives a great big lorry) but when I read him your post he just laughed and said 'It's a great idea, I get paid by the hour, it wouldn't bother me'.
So it would take a lot longer to get goods everywhere and the cost of everything would go up.
I agree with you though, it does feel quite painful when you're actually in the queue but no your idea isn't really practical.
Or was it a joke? (I am quite gullible):rotfl:
I find lorry drivers inoffensive (although I am biased), it's the middle aged women who sit in the middle lane that make me need to take deep breathsDebt £26k 18/10/140 -
I agree with Banwa, bring it on soon as.
I'll get plenty of overtime, costs will go up by hey who cares...as a bonus there will be a never ending line of trucks stretching the entire length of the motorway network in lane 1 and queues of cars unable to join at the slip roads and loads more stuck in lane 2 unable to get between the trucks to exit too.
Doesn't take long to overtake me i never go above 50mph, it's my green effort...more greenies in the back pocket that is.0 -
And while we're on....
Shall we ban all the dopey car drivers that sit in lane 1 on a motorway that has roadworks on it, and a speed restriction of 50mph, when they want to do 42mph? If they can't understand the congestion THEY are causing, then ban them as well.
It's 50 you !!!!!!!!s.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
Everyone loves to maon about lorry drivers.Maybe we should just ban them from the roads completely. Then we'd all starve as noone would deliver the food we eat.0

For such big hairy ar5ed guys (and gals!), can you not even take a bit of tounge in cheek posts?
If the car drivers used the lanes as they should be used, instead of staying in lane 3 incase a lorry tries to go past another one at some point over the next 20 miles, the problem would be solved.0 -
this is one of my all time bug bears :mad::mad:
you can see the effects for miles of a dumb !!! lorry driver trying to overtake a 1mph slower HGV on a 3 lane motorway .
Road pricing via black boxes has been discussed by the last Government , but the opposition by the masses of car drivers will be vote loser . BUT i think the next logical step is to keep the HGV's off the road in sociable hours ( AKA when the majority of people travel) . give them tax breaks and incentives to put them on the road in the middle night ( carrot) and then then hit them in the pocket if they insist on clogging the roads up during the day ( stick )
it could work IMO . as a railway man it is a obvious solution . Rail freight mostly travels out of the way of passenger trains , the daytime paths are charged at a premium. is it so hard to apply the same principles on the roads ?? our roads are a asset it's time we used them smarter !!!Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Ban taxi drivers. They are meant to be professional drivers but they all drive like complete w****rs round here.0

The solution would be to ban overtaking by HGVs and indeed any other vehicles unless the manoeuvre can be completed in 30 seconds. The man without a signature.0

I dont have a problem with lorries overtaking as long as they do pull back in once overtaking is done
Have you ever driven on the A34 between Winchester and the M4 and M40? Dual carriageway so when a truck decides to overtake you're really stuffed
Every time there is a slight incline the !!!!!!s have to overtake, and boy does it p**s me off!! You can be quite happily toodling along at 70 and a truck driver spots a slight rise in the road and must overtake and it all slows down to 35-40mph. My dad was a HGV driver when they were considered the Knights of the road. Not any more.0
